Don't go cheap if you are actually running in them.

You will end up like me with terrible foot and ankle issues later in life.

Battling some ferocious plantar fasciitis right now.

FWIW, go to the New Balance store (there is one in BR) and get fitted.

I just got a pair of Asics Gel-Cumulus 27 last week. Very cushioned but not quite as much as the Gel-Nimbus. I went to Feet Fleet and got my feet scanned, then tried on probably 6-8 different shoes between Asics, Brooks, Hoka, OnCloud and bought the pair that I liked the most. I would recommend doing the something similar. You can buy the nicest pair of running shoes you can find, but if they don't fit your foot correctly, you're going to have problems.

Brooks Beast

The new styles will be ~$180. The older styles ~$120. They are worth it.

If you're actually running in them, you need to go to a running store and have them look at your gait and recommend shoes with the proper level of support. The ghosts above are great shoes, but would likely hurt my knees to run in. For me, the best brooks shoe is the Adrenaline.

If you don't want to go to a running shoe store or don't have one close, most major manufacturers now have quizzes/self tests on their website that are better than nothing to get you started.

Brooks were my choice when in the military, ran morning & evenings. Still my choice 30+ years with zero running, but still walking…

I need a support shoe and bought the first pair of Hoka Arahi when they came out years ago. They've been great. Looking at getting a new pair to replace them. Will likely go with the Graviota this time.

I run about 18-25 miles a week and am on about my tenth pair of Hoka Bondi 8's. They work wonderfully for me. Hoka just released their Bondi 9 I am about to order a pair of those to work into the mix.

All that to be said what works for me may not work for you. I can't recommend enough having someone fit you for shoes based on your running stride. It is the best way to help prevent injury.

For example several here love Brooks and I have friends that do, I can't wear them...

Altra is another recommendation if you have wide feet as they have a very nice and wide toe box.

Lastly try and track your miles if running a lot, you want to change shoes about every 400 miles or sooner if your body starts hurting in places it normally doesn't after a run.

What is your fitness level?

What is your running experience level?

What are your goals?

What is your weight and height?

Do you pronate?

Are you flat footed, or, if not, how high are your arches?

Do you have any foot or leg issues that cause problems/pain when walking, jogging, or running?

The Health and Fitness Board would honestly be a better place for this question, but going to a good shoe/running shoe store that has runners working in it is probably the best advice.

I used to run a lot and tried everything. I am a huge Brooks fan. I'm sure you can find some that will work well.

Altra seem to have a pretty good following and folks that wear them really like them alot.
