Can we be honest about Guidry?

Every week it’s been “we will see next week” and then nothing changes. If this is an injury that is week by week for months wouldn’t that be known at an earlier date? I want him back and he’s a valuable asset to the team. But these vague updates seem fishy.

LSU head coach Jay Johnson spoke with reporters on Monday and was asked about Gavin Guidry, who has yet to pitch this season.

Johnson said Guidry is still working his way back, but they don't want to rush him.
quote:
"There are benchmarks every day, and he has to hit the benchmarks to go to the next step," Johnson said. "I want to pitch him badly, but I’m not going to put him in a position where we go out one time and go backwards, especially now at this point in the season."
When asked whether or not redshirting him was an option, Johnson said the hope is to get him back to this season.
quote:
"We are trying to get him back this season. If it comes to a point where that’s what we need to look at, then we’ll do that."

"There’s a balance of doing right by the player and doing what’s best for the program."

"But there are actual benchmarks that have to be hit, and we didn’t hit them last week, so we kind of reset and restart. But I'm very hopeful that we will be able to use him this weekend. I just can’t answer that until Thursday."

Everything is clear and fine until this quiet, which we see often. Makes me feel like there might be something not being said. Either the injury is worse than expected and not being revealed or another factor.

It’s a back. That is a tough injury to just say he will be good in 3-4 weeks.

Back injuries are never simple.

Here is the clip that everyone is taking out of context. Jay even says he's hopefull he gets him back this week but doesn't know.

Sounds like Gavin is on the Zion Williamson rehab plan. Another 2 weeks, then 2 weeks later evaluate in 2 weeks again, lol

Why does everyone think something fishy is happening. Back injuries are some of the most tedious, day to day injuries a person can have.

Jay Johnson has been quite candid with this injury the entire season. It’s an injury that doesn’t have a clear timeline.,and Jay is being careful. They want Guidry to reach whatever benchmarks they have set for him in order to not re-injure himself. I think that is quite fair and there’s nothing fishy about about it at all, imo.

If he can be 100% a couple of weeks before post season then fine. If not, he should redshirt.

Jay said today in his press conference that Anderson is the only pitcher on this year’s staff that pitched in an SEC game last year.

Take from that what you will, but Jay has been very precise in his comments.
I’m surprised others haven’t picked up on that.

Either you're taking this out of context or Jay is mistaken.

Just off the top of my head, Primeaux and Noot faced SEC teams last year.

Classic conspiracist thinking. The coach is being very transparent. Consider the possibility that what the coach is telling us is true.

The fact that he's saying he can't say anything til Thursday makes me think he already knows he will be back for sure or knows for sure he won't be. I'm thinking he knows he will be back

If the stories about it being a bulging disc are true, calling it "a back injury" is really understating it.

Muscular back injuries are tricky. A bulging disc causing nerve pain is an entirely different situation.
