I love Jose and he went off against the Lakers but this team needs young, cheap assets and Jose will be on the last year of his deal I’m pretty sure so if his value is at an all time high in the offseason from him playing well as the starting PG then I think you have to look at dealing him while you can get something in return. He could be a piece in a package deal to get a better player and possibly a starter if someone like CJ or draft capital is included. Elfrid Payton isn’t as offensively gifted as Jose but he’s an amazing facilitator and I think he could be the backup PG for the team next year on a vet minimum deal.

Elfrid can't get on a roster consistently for a reason, it's the fact his shooting is bad bad.

Hope is landing a guy who can be the lead facilitator. Edgecomb, harper, Flagg all showed flashes

Bingo! Jose has 1 good game every 15 but this dumbass fanbase thinks he has some talent that we cant replace. Bro cant even throw lobs as well as Elfrid Payton. I was waiting for the 20 Jose posts after this Lakers game.

If we can get any decent "plus value return" by moving Jose...I suggest we do so.

You do realize the savings from replacing Jose with Elfrid is going to be less than 1 mil if he signs the minimum right?

I don’t care, it’s more about making the team better. If a deal presented itself to make the team better and including Jose in a package required it, I wouldn’t think twice. Again I love Jose’s scrappiness but he probably will leave in free agency next year in all likelihood so why not trade him in the offseason? Especially if we land a lead guard or point forward like Flagg (I always thought BI had the potential to be that with his passing ability but he stalled the offense instead). Also someone has to move over for Antonio Reeves because his shooting is too deadly not to play regular minutes off the bench next year. Reeves, Karlo and Missi all showed they belong in the NBA this year. Missi may not be a starter but he’s definitely a great #2 center with the ability to start if someone gets hurt. That being said, if he’s our starter at the 5 next year because we landed Flagg or Harper then I would be ecstatic.

Ok. But you're lashing out over a relatively cheap bench player and advocating for a JAG like Payton who will make little difference in the grand scheme of things.

If you talking about a major upgrade, sure... I'm all for it. But to make a big deal out of Jose is pointless. Whether you trade him or not, makes no difference to me but your solution isn't really an upgrade.

I’m not advocating for anyone, if they don’t have Payton on the roster it doesn’t make a difference to me. All I was saying is to me there’s not that huge of a drop from Jose to Payton. Jose is the better scorer, Elfrid the better passer neither are starters. If Jose plays well and some team wanted him included in a deal to get a better player, I would do it. That’s all I’m saying. If that deal doesn’t present itself then that’s fine too.

You literally advocated replacing Jose with Elfrid in your OP.

Jose has solidified himself in the rotation on a great contract, can be a spot starter. Issue, as always, lies between 0 and 2.

That's a sizable downgrade at the backup PG position.

Jose is a backup PG. a good one too.

He’s not a starter.

Backups struggle when they’re asked to do more than they’re capable of. Our constant injuries have a trickle down effect

The dude makes 4 mil. Jose isn't the problem with the team.

What do you imagine that you are trading Jose for?

Our fanbase(all nba fanbases) are obsessed with trades and extracting max value. Everyone wants to be fantasy gm, but what are you getting back for a small backup pg who is on a great deal but at 4 million. Like a late 2nd maybe? That's awful value for Jose imo. Most 2nds turn into Didi Louzada

You’ can’t calculate Jose’s value to the team like you do for most other players.
There are some serious intangibles to
His value.

I think the best word for wrapping up those intangibles is pace. Our defensive pace quickens and becomes more chaotic. Our offensive pace gets more frantic. That pace lingers after he leaves the game. Hence, why he is most effective in his 14-16 minute role.
