"We inform you that Executive Order 14173, Ending Illegal Discrimination and Restoring Merit-based Opportunities, signed by President Trump, applies to all suppliers and service providers of the U.S. Government, regardless of their nationality and the country in which they operate," reads the letter, according to a copy that French newspaper Le Figaro published on its website.

"We would be grateful if you could complete and sign the document in English within five days and return it to us by email. If you do not agree to sign this document, we would appreciate if you could provide detailed reasons, which we will forward to our legal services," the letter added, with reference to the certification seen by Reuters."

"An official close to French Finance Minister Eric Lombard said the matter would be taken up with the U.S. government.

"This practice reflects the values of the new U.S. government. They are not the same as ours. The minister will remind his counterparts in the U.S. government of this," the official said."

Europe has been forcing American companies into DEI for years.

It's another country, I am more than fine if they do what they want unless those employees are located here.

Why do we care about French corporate policy for our suppliers outside of meeting contractual performance?

I agree. We can also cancel our contracts with them.

The EU exports 65% more (235B$) to the US than they import from the US (2024). Thirty years ago it was balanced. One contributing factor is their byzantine set of regulations on manufacture of just about everything. There's no logical reason for that kind of trade imbalance between the US and Europe. Couple that with their petulant response to Trump's prodding that they pay more for their own defense. If there's a good case anywhere in the world for America first trade policies, it's with the EU.

America is the most influential and powerful country in the world. We set the rules if you want to do business with us.

You also can't use this argument when the democrats have demanded for years that all government contractors must submit to DEI ideology. Why do you have a problem with Trump setting rules for foreign contractors but supported Obama & Biden pushing DEI on American businesses?

Where was your concern for the policies of suppliers when it was American companies being bullied by your politicians? Why do you care more about foreigners than your own countrymen?

So that's kinda like the EU and the UK wanting US. Social media companies platforms to comply to their demands of limits on free speech or be banned or fined for not complying.

I know this is off of the subject in the opening post but this is why I say do away with daylight savings by splitting the difference between the two. This way we get the time the same all year.

Sorry about the mini highjack.

Not the same. Censorship applies to anyone trying to say something the powers that be don't like.

These rules apply to companies doing business with and receiving money from the federal government. They've already agreed in their contracts to comply with guidelines promulgated by the federal government. They could apply for a waiver, and might get it. Otherwise, they lose the contracts for noncompliance.

Some of you need to realize we don’t have to be careful with anything. We have the power to be a bully and it’s perfectly fine to exert that power
