If Silencers Are Taken Off The NFA?

I think there is a pretty decent chance that silencers and SBRs get taken off the NFA soon.
What happens to the price of silencers?
1. Stays exactly the same.
2. Goes up $200.
3. Goes down remarkably because of increased demand and thus increased competition and supply chain improvements.
4. Goes up remarkably since there are no barriers to purchase and anyone can buy- industry needs to slow the market to keep up with demand, so they increase the price.

I think you'll see a bunch of cheap shite flood the market as well. Lots of aluminum cans, probably youtube videos of them blowing up.

My kids will be getting suppressors for Christmas from me instead of random BS.

It means I'm gonna 3d print 22 suppressors at the library

Send my forms into the ATF today for 2 cans, I fully expect the requirement to be removed the day after I get my stamps

They would be very cheap. The only reason they are so expensive is because machine shop guys don’t want to fool with the regulations of making them.

Cheap. They’ll be next to slim jims at the Academy checkout line.

It’s highly unlikely you see them
Come off the NFA. Law passed by Congress. More likely ATF changes the rules on purchase and possession . It’s crazy you can buy a suppressor in many EU countries over the counter but in the US it takes months in many cases.

4473 with submission of photo, fingerprints, and tax stamp. walk out same day with suppressor. they can change it to that?

that's the only way i see it happening.

Idk that... But for $40 worth of pvc, a tube of grease, and a roll of duct tape, Ill start my suppressor empire.

They are not purchased by a lot of people because they are a NFA item and many just don’t know how to do it or aren’t willing to put in the little bit of effort. Between my late grandfather, my dad, and my uncle they owned close to 150 guns and that I know of 0 suppressors. Mostly hunting guns and BS they ‘won’ at auctions like NWTF and Ducks Unlimited events. I would assume that would change to closer to 5-10 each for guys like that.
In regards to hunting and recreation for ear protection they just make a lot of sense.
Imagine, for instance, a duck blind with a little innovation where everyone had suppressors? I know that’s not a use today but no reason it couldn’t be.
The free market would generally make them cheaper and better I’d assume. But I would assume it would be like guns today; you can buy a cheap one or you can buy an expensive one.

You will see a spike in sales, but I’m not sure it will cause the prices to rise. Since suppressors are already sold at MSRP. However, after that the prices may drop like firearms prices where you can buy a suppressor a little under MSRP.

The price would almost certainly spike as all the people who didn't want to go through the trouble are now customers. If you can wait out that spike I don't see how they get anything but cheaper. 3d prints aren't even high-tech any more and the supply should more than catch up, it's just a question of how long that would take.

Initially a huge price jump as many folks who otherwise wouldnt get them decide to buy one, and the supply dwindles and demand increases.

One thing that you would most likely see is a better secondary market for silencers.
Currently, it’s pretty much impossible to sell one you own.

I want to get a couple more, and I share the same cautious optimism you have, so I’m thinking of getting them ordered this week.
I think if/when restrictions are lifted and we return to actually following the constitution, for the next couple years you won’t be able to buy one because demand will far outpace supply by orders of magnitude. It will take them a year or two to catch up.

I have no idea how it would work. This isn’t some dipshit regulation. It’s a dipshit law. So it’s harder to get the attorneys at DOJ to come u with something that works. We also don’t want to get in a situation where 4 years from now a D is back in charge and you have a ton of suppressors that are “illegal”.

IF they come off the NFA, short term prices will jump (supply won't increase at the same pace as demand). Once the market supply has time to get up to pace with demand the price will come back down to around where it is today, maybe a little lower if more manufacturers enter the market to increase supply.
