Going to Nashville this weekend for a wedding and I think we are going to check out the zoo one of the days we are in town. Curious how it stacks up. My home zoo was the Smithsonian Zoo which is awesome. The Audubon Zoo/Baton Rouge Zoo was always a huge let down when I'd visit in comparison.

How's Nashville's? Can't say I've heard much about it so I have no idea either way.

TIA

Just wait until you get back home and visit the world's largest zoo right over the Sunshine Bridge.

I'm from BTR and have been in Nashville since '93. The zoo is OK - not great. There are way better things to do downtown - bars, food, museums, etc.

It's relatively small and you'll be in and out within an hour. But if you're bringing kids, let them enjoy the newly renovated playground. It's pretty legit but keep your eyes close because it's easy to wander off.

Overall, zoo is meh. You may or may not see a tiger and that's about it. Nothing exotic there at all.

ETA you're there for a wedding? Yeah, nah. That zoo ain't the place.

Eh, I wouldn't say the grounds are small. The grounds are quite large, though its been a couple of years. They don't have a ton of animals and I agree its a fairly quick thing 2-3 hours max probably. The elephant exhibit is huge, as an example.

The Children's Museum was really good from my memory also, again its been awhile.

I live a half mile from it. It's mediocre compared to the more well known zoos. We still have a membership and go frequently, but that's because the kids love it - especially the gigantic playground

Annual passholder.

The kid loves the playground. They built it on the grounds of an old farm. They’ve kept the old house, some of the old barns and other buildings and worked them into the plan. Nice Komodo dragon exhibit.

Parking can be a pain. It’ll be crowded on the weekend.

I’d only go if you have kids with you. It’s somewhere between the Smithsonian Zoo and BR Zoo.

We are doing the downtown stuff on Sunday/Friday. My wife wants to see some new leopard cub or something, so I am not getting out of going to the Zoo

Google says it's 188 acres. For example, The Smithsonian is about 165 and Audubon (which I'd consider small) is about 60. The San Diego Zoo (which I always seem to hear about when zoo's come up) is only 100. New York's is 260.

So 188 actually seems pretty big.

We went last summer - it was great, but we did have kids with us

Petting kangaroos was sort of awesome.

It’s a pretty big zoo compared to Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

We were disappointed that the red pandas were picked up. But the rest of the zoo was great.

Not sure if it would be on my list to do if I didn’t have kids with me, though.

A bit off-topic, but if you have the time... the Memphis Zoo is pretty great. They could improve their restaurant area a bit, but other than that it's well worth the money and time.

I wouldn't have these two in the same category. Audubon Zoo is often considered one of the better zoos in the country.

The few times that I've been to the Baton Rouge Zoo, it just seems like a ton of wasted space. Granted, I have not been since the Baton Rouge Zoo completed the new renovations.

A lot of it was designed by an LSU grad - Ace Torre
