these numbers are pretty surprising, considering that for years we've heard about how there seems to be a severe downturn in young men's preference for sex in Japan, how they are all about robots and shite, etc....
this seems to indicate otherwise....

Not really. You're talking about millions and millions of people but making assumptions based outside of some night club in Roppongi? Of course there are loose women and dudes picking them up. Which is where they find the foreign men. There has always been a sect of loose Japanese women who are looking for big gaijin to stretch them out and make them feel like shite.
Reality isn't outside a night club. The Japanese take what the Americans are doing and put it on hyper mode. Some dudes are getting action, but not most. In fact, it's more like .01%
