Baseball is not Football

With every loss in baseball, there’s a faction of people that completely overreact on The Rant. It’s March 23, not May 23…relax!!
College football is intense. Every Saturday feels like a playoff game, and with only 12 or 13 regular-season games, every mistake and loss are magnified.
College baseball on the other hand is a different animal. With 55-60 games in a season (56 for LSU in 2025), even top programs like LSU drop games. Losses are not uncommon, even for a national champion.
You don’t tune into a weekend series expecting a sweep every time; you’re there for the series wins and the grind to Omaha. A loss to a rival in football can be a gut punch. In baseball, it’s just a Saturday in March, and there’s another game tomorrow.
That football ‘win-or-it’s-over’ mentality will stress you out as a baseball fan. College baseball is about riding the waves. Losses are normal, but the beauty of baseball is you have Sunday to respond and take the series.

2022 - Ole Miss (42-23) - barely made postseason regionals
2021 - Mississippi State (50-18)
2020 - Canceled due to COVID
2019 - Vanderbilt (59-12)

This exact thread gets started every single year.
You’re 100% correct, but there will still be the usual shite posters who can’t seem to grasp the concept.

quote:your premise is right but where’d you get this from? is there actually a single team you see with more than 56 games on their schedule bc weve been at a 56 game regular season limit for a couple decades plus now. Pretty sure that’s the standard across the entire D1 landscape.

Many of these didn’t have any exposure to the game until their kid decided to join a travel ball team.

I actually didn’t know that 56 was the limit. I just thought everyone sat around 56-58, minus a game or 2 for weather cancelations or additional games added.

That Vanderbilt team was the GOAT

According to more than a few posts, our season ended yesterday.

This is why I love baseball and follow it closer than football. While last night was a letdown because we could’ve won, it doesn’t wreck your season like a lost in football can. Baseball is a grind.

You aren’t necessarily wrong….however when you lose a game you should have won it will cost you…you just can’t lose games like that if you want a national seed.
The games you lose where their pitcher bottles you up and you smack the ball right at people….that’s what people call “baseball”….but walking over and over against a bad hitting team is something entirely different

One of the best things about following baseball is to see the growth and development of players over the season. Figuring out who can be counted on is part of the fun. You can't do that without putting people in tough situations and see what they do. The good thing about baseball is you have room for error as you figure that out. Great coaches minimize the damage / losses as you work through the roster and put the team in a good position for post-season.

Going on the road and losing to a top 5 team is not acceptable.

never forget stupidity like this!!!

There is also more parity now in college baseball than ever before. The SEC is stacked with talent. This isn’t the SEC of the 90s quit trying to compare. Jay won’t be skip. Nobody will ever be skip.
College pitchers are more difficult to manage now than they have ever been. It’s a good bit of MLB speed and spin, with HS and JUCO level control. That’s difficult to manage for everyone. Pitchers, coaches, and especially the catchers (so quit giving them shite).
LSU has lost 2 games this year, and one was on the road to a blue blood top 10 team. Quit crying like we are talking about the basketball team.

There’s more than enough hysteria after a football loss…

Exactly this /\
It's a game played by guys not long out of high school-----ages 19 to early 20's for crying out loud. The majority of them will not make it to the pro ranks, even though that is the goal many of them have.
Hopefully, they'll move on to become professionals in their field of study and make a good living while following baseball on their sofas.
