Beginning March 31st, people will no longer be able to verify their identity to the SSA over the phone and those who cannot properly verify their identity over the agency’s “my Social Security” online service, will be required to visit an agency field office in person to complete the verification process, agency leadership told reporters Tuesday.

The change will apply to new Social Security applicants and existing recipients who want to change their direct deposit information.

Inb4 SloF*ckingPussy assures us all that requiring people to prove who they are to get Social Security is clearly racist and automatically unconstitutional. He’ll cite us a late 1800’s-era Supreme Court case which has nothing to do with the issue but assure us all that we’re just not smart enough (like him) to see the “real” nuanced meaning of the case.

This sounds like a magnificent plan.

Unfortunately, now good people who administer valid SSA benefits for dementia patients will have to haul them before pissed off DEI hires within the SSA. To prove that the demetia patient, who paid into SSA benefits before the Vietnam War, is alive.

Not many people care for dementia patients anymore. Endeavor to persevere.

They sure find their way to their doctors appointments..wheelchairs , walkers and all...week in and week out...with rides from family, friends or uber....very few are bed bound....

Simple solution... employ the many jobless former federal employees to do home visits for the disabled and infirm. The freaking Census lady visited me last week because I hadn't gotten around to doing the survey.

If the Census people can send their workforce door to door simply to count heads, toilets and what kind of heater you have, a 15-20min process... why can't SSA also have a home visit mobile workforce?

Approx. 40% of Social Security direct deposit fraud is associated with fraudsters calling SSA on the phone and changing the direct deposit bank account from the correct one to a fraudulent one.

Starting on March 29, in order to change the direct deposit bank account, one can:
-Change it online using 2FA (Call Center Technicians available to assist beneficiaries with website)
-Change it in person at a SSA Service Center

This is identical to the fraud protections at almost all major banks, where deposit changes are made either online or in person.
