Offer Britain a take it or leave it deal to align with US or choose to align with Europe.

Yes, leave NATO. Its a burden.

I don't really think many of the places we have bases will reverse course for that. They know we are still the side to be on, and we will have GAINED power and leverage. It doesn't hurt them to let us continue. What do I know, though.

Considering the here-say around the Five-Eyes agreements, I do not consider certain nations in Europe our "Allies".

That's never going to happen. Many of the European bases are jumping off points to Africa and the middle east. It would decimate our military capability especially special ops in those areas. Now sure we could beef up in the theater and African continent. But I'm not sure that would be ideal.

Most of the fighting in Africa these days is in the Sahel or Somalia. So far away from Europe that it’s not really practical. If having a military presence in Africa the Ghana, Uganda or Kenya would be much more ideal.

I didn't feel this way a week ago but the way they've all come out with these displays of "solidarity" with Ukraine is concerning.
I'd recommend we maybe keep a naval base somewhere. Italy seems like they want to stay out of it. They don't really love us but don't hate us either. May be a good place.
