There some jobs out near the Arctic Circle. It’s really remote.

Do you have a time machine? If so, you may want to go back to early 2021.

Do you have more details? What type of career, what field?

Best advice I can give is the same advice I’d give to any younger person- figure out what you like and what ur good at and WORK FOR YOURSELF…. That way you can always work pretty much wherever you want, or if you’re like most of the crazy weirdos here who love fluorescent lighting and cubicles and commuting two hours a day and office politics and water cooler BS and sharing a toilet with trashy coworkers - you can open an office and go to work there…. The key is to have OPTIONS and never let anyone dictate to you where to work .

My entire company is 100% remote. It is a healthcare staffing and consulting firm. There are pros and cons to it. If you want a remote job healthcare medical coding is switching to a large % of people being remote.

It has been a very tough job market for about 15 months. It’s even worse for those looking for remote only work.

Don’t expect the same opportunities as a regular work set up.
Pay will be lower but you’re at home

The aging adage "learn to code" will give you a decent opportunity to WFH. But, the old fogeys in charge of many companies are bucking the WFH trend and forcing workers back to the office at least some amount of the time. My company is hybrid 3 in office a 2 from home. I don't mind that too much, but I'd prefer a 2/3 option.
If you're new to any field, just expect to be in an office until you can prove your value to the company. IMO, WFH is a privilege and not a right. We do have many employees who take advantage of it, and it kills it for the rest of us. I do wish companies would tailor each employee's WFH options to their output. Some of us actually do the right thing when we WFH.

I’ve been primarily remote for the past eight years. 100% remote for the past six.

As someone who highly values working from home, I’d say that it’s probably not a good idea to “build a career” around the idea.
Given the current push to get people back to the office and lack of advertised remote roles, I’d recommend my approach; find a hybrid role in an area you enjoy, get really good at it, and then put together a case for why you should be 100% remote.
As for companies to work for, figuring out what you want to do, it’s usually not hard to determine what companies are more open to flexible working arrangements.

I’m open to any field. Strong background in finance & operations mgmt. My intent is to move and/or travel in about 4 years. I’d like to work while not being tied down to a particular location. I’d also like to enjoy the work I do. Willing to trade high pay for happiness

Any of you work this way?
I do, sitting here in shorts
Any suggested companies to work for who offer this?
State Farm built a huge regional campus in Richardson, TX (kinda North DFW) and moved most of their processing to one location.
They always have a bunch of positions open, I know several people who work there. Look Here: LINK
Here's one example:
Claim Specialist - Property Field Inspection
Competitive candidates should reside within a commutable distance of this territory. This is a Remote-Field position in which you will work from home and utilize a mobile office/vehicle for in-person appointments
Potential starting salary range: $64,965.62 - $100,451.11 annually, $32.24 - $49.85 / hour
Starting salary will be based on skills, background, and experience
High end of the range limited to applicants with significant relevant experience
Potential yearly incentive pay up to 15% of base salary
Here's another one in Louisiana:
Competitive candidates should reside within a commutable distance of this territory and is responsible for servicing these zip codes:
70639 70644 70656 71403 71416 71427 71446 71447 71455 71456 71457 71459 71461 71468 71469

Because work-life-balance is a priority at State Farm, compensation is based on our standard 38:45-hour work week!

They aren’t hiring new coders when they can grab an H1B visa at half the cost.
Not a good time for WFH without an extensive resume.

The best way is as I mentioned upthread to start a business/work for yourself .
The second best way, depending on your personality , might be to work as a sales rep/territory manager… it’s what ive done for the better part of the last 17/18 years…. ‘Remote’ has different definitions; ive always worked from home, in that ive never had an office to report to.. but ive generally not worked from my couch in shorts since i usually have to visit clients ‘in the field’…. So while it isn’t one of the ‘location independent’ gigs you hear so much about lately- it is vastly, vastly preferable to having to go into an office with some douchebag manager micro-managing you within an inch of your life and being given permission to dress down on ‘casual Fridays’ or whoever stupid gimmicks they are doing now to keep office workers from jumping out of the 20th floor window .
I should probably mention though that a lot of sales jobs are going the way of there dodo bird, but then again so are lots of other jobs .. very few guarantees with anything .

I work remote in digital marketing for a major healthcare system in Louisiana. The company is great, my team is great, the job is great. All I did was apply. The remote aspect of it was kind of a bonus. I expected to go into the office. This has been a nice transition after doing government work for the first 20 years of my career.
