The Danes offer to take California off our hands and create Hans Christian Andersen Land.

Supposedly in jest, but for the right price...
What's our bottom line for the deal?
Maybe start the trade city by city, L.A. for Copenhagen?

If they can gather 40 trillion US dollars, let them have it.

It's satire amongst the elite. The concept of independent countries ended a decade ago. Globalization has destroyed individuality of nations.

Greenland for California, and a Snickers bar. Only stipulation is that anyone who want to move out of California to the US must be vetted, and approved.

Denmark couldn't afford to buy California from the US. If they gave the US Greenland, The Faroe Islands, and Denmark then possibly with some cash on their side San Diego would be in play.

I think that's kind of their point, we can't afford to buy Greenland from them.

Counter with a line from Santa Barbara east to the state line. Dennmark gets everything south of that line. US gets to keep San Diego but we'll trade the rest for Greenland.

Ehhhh... Greenland has a lower GDP than the Virgin Islands. While rich in natural resources it isn't exactly turnkey to extract those resources. It's fairly comparable to Alaska decades ago. It has potential and has strategic advantages both in resources and location, absolutely.

Saying the richest country in the world can't afford a territory that would have an annual GDP lower than all but two of their states/territories, if it was available, is nowhere close to comparable to a country like Denmark buying a state with an annual GDP over 10x that of their entire country.

Would like to see a deal where instead of acquiring U.S. real estate, Denmark launches a campaign to convince everyone in S. California to move to Greenland.

None of that has anything to do with the price that Denmark would ask.

And no, with the debt load we carry, we are not the richest country in the world - we just have the biggest cash flow.
