This is from ESPN+

quote:

40. New Orleans Saints
Jaxson Dart, QB, Ole Miss

The Saints added a receiver in Round 1, and now they'd get a long-term option who can throw him the ball with Derek Carr's future with the team in question. Dart likely needs to sit for a year to learn NFL concepts -- he had some initial struggles at Senior Bowl practices -- but he throws a beautiful deep ball and has plus-level tools that will help him start in the future.

His 1st round prediction for the Saints:

quote:

9. New Orleans Saints
Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Arizona

Chris Olave is great when healthy (he played only eight games this past season), but the Saints lack impact receivers beyond him. That's why the 6-foot-5 McMillan could fit. He can win deep down the field and gain even more yards after the catch. His range and ability to win 50-50 balls reminds me of the Falcons' Drake London, who was a first-round pick in 2022.

There is concern about McMillan's pull-away speed at the pro level, so how he runs at the combine will be important for his draft stock. But he's one of the best receivers in this class going off tape alone, finishing third in the country with 1,319 receiving yards in 2024.

I think a qb in round 2 is usually going to be a waste, with the way teams force that position it’s pretty unlikely you’re going to get a franchise qb there, there’s a reason he didn’t go in round 1. Sure you can point towards an outlier that hit but they’re just that.

This roster needs bodies, I’d rather get a quality starter at another position with an early rd 2 pick than spin the wheel on dart

Agreed.

The saints have 5 or 6 picks in the top 130 I believe. Chance to do some damage to roster building

This is how things stand right now. No 5th round pick, and of course the numbers will change once the compensatory picks are announced

Round 1, Pick 9:
Round 2, Pick 40:
Round 3, Pick 71:
Round 3, Pick 90:
Round 4, Pick 111:
Round 4, Pick 127:
Round 6, Pick 182:
Round 6, Pick 200:
Round 7, Pick 253:

YES! get a DE, DT or WR in the first, then get a starting DT or OG in the second. Dart isn’t doing crap for the Saints with this line. And as a rookie, he isn’t going to outplay Carr or Rattler. Wasted pick if it happens.

McMillian I think would definitely be a good compliment to Shaheed and Olave.

Skill set wise.

If KM does end up taking a quarterback early, I would trust his judgment I guess although there are a lot of holes on this team.

The second round is typically the sweet spot to find an elite guard

Dart sucks. I guess that makes him a perfect draft choice for the Saints.

I never watched Dart this year and thought, “yeah, he could be a professional NFL QB.” I don’t get the hype here. Now I’m the first to admit that evaluating QBs is really hard and you never know who will or will not pan out. But I’ve never been that impressed by Dart.

The Saints are not in a good spot to trade back from #9 in a weak QB draft class but I'd really like to see them trade back and pick up an extra #1 in 2026.

Not sure what a trade like that would look like value wise but next draft would be nice to have 2 1st's to possibly move up to get the QB of the future.

I wouldn’t be opposed to taking him in round 2. He’s DEFINITELY better than Rattler. The Rattler fanboys would melt though lol

This is one of the rare drafts the Saints could draft almost any position except for RB or center and it would fill a need. That means wasting a 2nd round pick on a middling QB that may never play doesn’t make much sense. The Saints could get next year’s version of Jaxon Dart if they really want

I'd argue RB.

the proof is in the pudding on Miller in my opinion.

Jamaal Williams? No!.

McMillian is who I want at 9.

DE is pretty deep in this draft. Maybe a good one drops to the 2nd. Then hopefully we can snag one of the top 5 tes in the third.

You brought up compensatory picks….

What compensation for compensatory picks will Saints receive in 2025 Draft ???

This isn’t a weak draft class at all. Qb wise yes. Elite level dline group and oline class. Probably the best running back draft in the last 10-15 years. I could easily see a trade happening but, with the amount of defensive talent especially pass rushers i see a player falling that they can’t pass up.

I’m really liking Mike Green in the middle of round 1 if Mickey does the unthinkable and trades down
