For everyone saying Murray’s career could be over, just stop.

He will be fine. Achilles surgery has come a long way in the last 15-20 years. He will probably miss the first month or two of the season but I bet we see him ready to go around Christmas. Wishing him a speedy recovery because I love his game and his energy on both sides of the court. Really fricking sucks for the Pels but now it’s officially time to tank for Flagg or a top 5 pick. I can’t believe the fricking Lakers got Luka for the giant unibrow vagina. I guess those conditioning issues were really bad. Luka showing up at 260 would be like Zion showing up at 330.

This organization turns sprained ankles and pulled hamstrings into half season injuries. You really think they’ll have him back from a torn Achilles in less than a year?

Uhh no he won't be. If that was the case Boogie would still be an all star player, Klay wouldn't have fell off like he did especially with his defense, John Wall would be still playing right now, and Kobe wouldn't have retired so soon. His career may not be over but he definitely won't be the same player and the difference is he'll still be under contract for the next 3 years while we were able to drop Boogie by not giving him that contract. Not only that the only player that was still viable in the NBA was Klay Thompson and that was because of his elite 3pt shooting. Just look at John Wall after he came back he was off the Wizards and stopped playing within the next two years. Again Durant and Klay are the only outliers in this case because of the elite shooting and body metrics.

Why be negative? I realize it’s about the worst injury for a basketball player but Murray has a fantastic work ethic and he’s got that edge about him that I honestly believe he’s going to attack his rehab and he will be ok. He will have to shake off the rust but I think in 11 months, which is about Xmas, that he could be ready to get back on the court. I hope so at least because we can’t trade him now so wishing him a speedy recovery. If Z and Trey and whoever they draft high this year can form a good offensive core I think Murray would fit in great as the 4th option where he isn’t pressured to score 20+ a night, he can just run the offense and play solid defense.

Loss of explosiveness is devastating for a player like Murray. He possibly will never be the same again

Well until we see that he’s a different player after the injury we should be staying positive and wishing him the best in his rehab. The big thing will be more mental if you ask me. It will take time for him to trust that leg again until he starts going full speed pushing off and stopping on that foot. Once he gets that past him where he can just think about playing basketball then I’m confident he will be the same or close enough to the same player as before. Again, we don’t need him to be the primary or even 2nd option. He should be a 4th option.

When was the last NBA player ready in 10-11 months after an Achilles rupture?

He will never be close to the same player he was and we won't have him basically all of next year. His career may be over and it's very likely his career in NO is effectively over.

Being rational and living in reality is not being negative.

Murray has a fantastic work ethic

Work ethic has nothing to do with it. It's luck of the bounce whether or not the elasticity comes back, and it basically never comes back close to where it was 100% prior to the injury.

I’ve had the surgery, I know how bad it is even for someone that doesn’t play professionally sports so I’m aware it will be even harder for an athlete to get that flexibility in his foot back. Hopefully his surgery is a complete success and he goes to a great surgeon that is in no way tied to the Pelicans idiot doctors.

Yeah, he won’t be ready for Christmas. As I have said, best case is a late season return next year but he will definitely be on a minutes restriction for whatever he can play next year. He won’t be close to whatever 100% post injury will be until the 2026-2027 season. There is a good chance he is out all next year. It is an absolutely devastating injury for this franchise.

If CJ doesn’t get traded at the deadline I would guess he slots back in as the starting PG unless they start Jose but I think it would be CJ. I hope for him that they can find him a contender that he can have a chance to win one. He deserves that as he’s been the consummate pro here in New Orleans but it’s time for us to tank for Flagg.

Seriously. It's dumb. Of course he won't be exactly the same but his career is far from over.

1. His career is not over. Being a right Achilles is a silver lining
2. He will likely never be the same.

Dr. James Andrews isn’t walking through the door to do that procedure though. It will most likely be Scott Montgomery as he’s the team’s ortho surgeon and while he’s skilled no doubt, he’s not the best. That’s guys like Andrews, ElAttrache and Jobe. Of course Dejounte could always want his own plan of care. Regardless I have always admired his game and was happy to have him when we got him. Now I’m really hating losing Dyson but I by no means think Dejounte Murray’s career as a starter is over. Even if it takes him half the season to come back we still have the option to just hang on to CJ if we so chose and traded him next deadline, especially if BI is moved. You would get less return next year on an expiring deal and at 34 but you’d also have a fill in PG until Murray’s return. Or we could just try to trade CJ, BI and Green then rest Zion as often possible and embrace the tank. So many possibilities. I sure would like another 1st round pick in this draft though.

His salary is now an albatross. This is literally worst case scenario.
