Does anyone actually believe that in 50 years people will be pulling out little pieces of metal and paper to pay for things?

I sure hope so. It is by far the best and most reliable means of transaction.

What’s a “pretty” penny worth?
Maybe just mint those.

Fox Business was just saying it cost 14 cents to produce a nickel.
Time to get rid of both.

The copper ones pre 1982 should be worth a pretty penny.

BTW...there is a small plant in Greeneville, Tennessee that makes the zinc blanks and copper coats them before they are shipped on to the mints.

I hope. If I pay you $20 and you take that and pay someone else $20 then it's still $20. If it's digital that WILL BE taxed and after numerous transactions it will be nothing.

Canada doesn’t use pennies; they round up or down to the nearest nickle.
That works for me; especially since it cost $.03 to make $.01.

Wouldn't the better plan be to reduce inflation to where the penny is more valuable? Thought that's what they were trying to do?

No. They want you round up to a nickel and donate to the government.

Civilization has been using "pieces of metal and paper" to pay for things for over 2000 years. What's happening in the next 50 that's going to upend all of that?

Nah, they'll probably be using Bullets as currency by then.

How so? Methods other than cash require both internet and power to function. Both internet and power are not completely reliable. Natural disaster after natural disaster has shown that nothing beats cash transactions as they can always be completed.

The penny should have been discontinued 30-40 years ago.

Right, and I'm sure prices will just round up to the next nickel.
