In the market for a late model used half ton pickup. Have tried to do my homework, and reviewed threads on here and many other truck and outdoor forums.

Currently have options for the following, all low mileage, all with almost identical bells and whistles. It will be tricky to just do a one day drive them each comparison, because 2/3 are fairly far away. Thoughts on this list:

2023 F-150 KR 5.0L
2023 GMC 1500 Denali 6.2L
2022 Ram 1500 Longhorn 5.7L

All 4x4, accident free, personal use, one owner vehicles. Tbh, I think I’d be pretty happy with any of them, my current ride is 20+ years old and starting to really show it.

Btw, the spread in price is about $15K between the 3 with the Ram the lowest and KR the highest.

Uses. Pull a 20’ Hydrasport (loaded down, about 6000#) and the occasional trip to South Texas to hunt. No serious mudding or off-roading.

I’d split the price difference and get the GMC.

Everyone I've known who has owned a later model Ram has loved them, and the Longhorn package is definitely nice. That being said, I'd go with the Denali, with the Ram being the second option.

Out of curiosity, why does the RAM get a lot of skepticism? I've had 2 tundras and my first truck was a dodge dakota. The Dakota was bare bones, hand crank windows, manual, tape deck, single cab. Just a super fun truck but mostly from the manual part. My trucks have always been used as work trucks. They don't stay in absolute pristine condition but I do take care of them.

I recently bought a 21 RAM 2500 Laramie and I really have no complaints from the truck. They've seemingly put the effort into the interior which is where my complaints were on the RAMS with older models. I have 80,000 miles on my truck and it drives great and it has a couple of small issues. I just assume all vehicles will have issues from time to time. I've never owned a Ford or GM truck.

From a loyal Ford guy for many years, I'd go GMC.

I have a 19 Ram Big Horn with the 5.7. Absolutely love it, best truck I have ever had. The ride is awesome. It tows plenty.

For the price, I feel like it can’t be beat.

Same here. I miss mine all the time and wish I had kept it around.

It’s always a crapshoot. I’d buy the one with the lowest mileage and keep us updated. Good luck!

Really to do with skepticism of Dodge/chrysler overall. Many of their vehicles have reliability issues. That being said everyone I’ve known with a Ram truck never seem to have any issues with them.

2x Tundra owner here, but company truck is a Ram. I've been very impressed with it-- so much so that I'd have to look at one if I were in the market. I think Ram is probably the best deal in terms of purchase price right now, but folks usually get the "Toyota Tax" back upon resale. Since the OP likes to keep trucks for a couple decades, I'd lean Toyota, but that wasn't on his list.

The real complaints come from gen 4 and prior. I have not seen too much discussed with the 5th gens that wasn't just hold over discussion.

I had two straight GMs and liked almost everything about both. I had an expensive repair on the first one involving the front portion of the drive train. Zero with the second one.

I am now on my second 5th Gen Ram and would not have another truck in its place.

My ‘10 Silverado required a new transmission before 100k miles, and my ‘18 needed a complete steering rack replacement (3k) a month ago. Truck has 155k.
Power and smooth ride are my favorite things about GM but damn the repairs.
Haven’t owned a Dodge since 1990 and never owned a Ford but may try on my next one.

Appreciate all the feedback, especially on the Ram. Both my main hunting buddy and main fishing buddy have GMC’s, but they are dyed in the wool GM guys, I had an F-150 for years until handing it off to my youngest, just don’t have a lot of first hand exposure to the Ram except one buddy that loves his.

When I called today to go drive the GMC I like, there was a sale in progress, but the sales guy just called and said his credit was really bad and his note was going to be $1500/month.

So I’m going to drive the GMC and the KR tomorrow, and the Ram is on its way (CarMax transfer). I’ll post back my thoughts after spinning all three.

2016 F150 Lariat 5.0 owner here... that motor and truck is more than I need

Nothing like a 5.0 cruising at 1500rpm down the interstate... my Lariat has more bells and whistles than I actually use... couldnt imagine a need for a KR

Hell, the way I drive, I barely get above 2500rpm... get a good motor, transmission, and tow package... you wont need much else... seat warmers are nice this time of year, though

I have had
1 GMC
3 fords
Now drive a 2018 Chevy z71.
Wife has 2022 Ford Expedition max.

All have pros and cons. But I do feel you get more with the Fords than the Chevy.

Looking to go 3/4 ton next and it would be between a AT4, high country or a 250 KR

I drive a ford and my FIL has a gmc. I prefer the ford but that’s based on minor personal preference things and he feels the same about his. I’d drive either if the price was right.

I had a doge for a few days as a rental on a work trip last summer. Man did I hate that truck. Its been long enough that I don’t remember the specifics but I do remember not liking quite a few things and swearing off owning one.

Traded a 16 KR last year for an AT4. I ended up getting it bc I liked the look of it better. But if I could go back, I’d get another KR.

Nothing major as the GMC is a nice truck. I wish I could take this 3.0 diesel out of it and put in the Ford. 26mpg doing 70 is sweet. And it pulls my #6000 trailer with no issues. But outside the looks and mileage, I’d take the F150.

F150 was more comfortable on long trips, easier to see your corners, load flat rear floor, button in the bed to turn on bed lights, interior lights much better at night, and FORScan to customize everything. The option for good retractable running boards was great too. Can’t get them on AT4 and the ones on the Denali don’t feel nearly as solid as the ones on the Fords.

More great feedback here. The King Ranch, actually, all three, have more goodies than I need, but at my age, my next vehicle is likely to be a motorized scooter or a walker, why not treat myself? And it’ll be a nice change not having to use a hitch rack for my big ice chest bc it takes up all the space in my SUV.

And I know Consumer Reports is far from infallible, but they rank the three in the same order as the prices.

Thanks a bunch guys, wish me luck today.

They all have good and bad with them. You just have to pray you aren't buying someone else's lemon.

But I drive a 22 Ram it is the best truck I've had. Wouldnt hesitate to buy any of them, but buying used would make me nervous.
