What are the chances McMahon is fired this year?

They have to be pretty low, right?
If I'm reading correctly, we would owe him $6.1MM as a buyout. That seems like a steep number to run off a basketball coach.
We are legit looking at only 2-3 wins in the SEC this year at most. The PMAC will be a ghost town by the end of the year and McMahon doesn't have the personality to get fans fired up for next year.

You have to remember that Woody got on his knees and begged CoachMc to come here.

Less than 5 sec wins... 5% chance
5 sec wins or more 0%
5 sec wins or more 0%

Where did you get $6.1M at? His contract buyout language says he would be owed 80% of the remaining balance of his contract. After this year, he would have $12.2M total remaining. 80% of that is $9.76M.

I think they ride out this year and next year just for economics.

If he goes winless in the SEC, it will be interesting...

Woody seems to be a good AD aside from the contracts. He has given out some fricking absurd contracts

My gosh. We thought $15m for O was high. At least he had a natty and heisman. $10M for an avg bball school is absurd. Must be nice to have a massive buyout to pay you if you perform poorly at your job.

We're in basketball purgatory with this coach.

They won’t sniff 5 sec wins

No judgment, just saying.

Similar to JJ, they’ll probably give him a lame duck year next season to with a make the tourney mandate even though they know it’s unlikely. In the meantime, recruiting and fan support will continue to erode.

It would be the same chances as the vaginas on this board growing a pair and having to man up for 2025. Slim to none.

That is nothing
And it is funded privately so no one on this board should give a shite.
If we have a disastrous year he’s getting canned.

They gotta move on him this year. This is laughable.

I wouldn't say it's an "absurd" contract. His annual salary is near the bottom of the SEC. The initial 7 year term was longer than the norm, but LSU wasn't exactly in a great position of leverage when they were forced (or at least forced themselves) to have to make the hire. LSU was under investigation at the time and I'm sure McMahon wanted security with that particular unknown being out there.
As for the OP as to the chances he is fired this year I'd say, "it depends." I don't think the bar to get another season is terribly high. Probably as low as 5 - 6 SEC wins (That's not my baseline. Just what I think LSU's baseline might be). The problem is unless they improve quickly, getting even 5-6 wins seems like a VERY tall task. If this is another losing season with 2-3 wins in the SEC I just don't see how anyone can plausibly justify bringing him back (I'm sure that is the bat-signal for 5-6 delusional souls to come in and tell us why McMahon bears no responsibility whatsoever for his .330 winning % vs. major conf. teams).
Fan interest is already incredibly low (there were MANY decent tickets available for as low as $3 earlier this year for the game vs. Florida St). An 0-10, 1-9 start to SEC play is only going to sink that lower. That's going to create more apathy in the donors. They have money. But even really wealthy people don't like pissing away money with no foreseeable return on that investment. If that dries up, so will the recruiting. That will put the program in a hole from which they can't dig out of barring something remarkably unexpected. At that point, what's the benefit of saving $2.9M by letting it go on another year knowing the results are unlikely to be much better...if at all? LSU would just be prolonging the inevitable instead of just cutting their losses and trying to find the guy that can elevate the program to a contending level it can be.
