So after 1.5 years the battery from O’Reillys already crapped out on me! Total POS. What brand is better? It is for a 2019 Highlander

I've had good experience with Interstate batteries from Costco.

if only 1.5 and you didn't buy the cheapest one, you should get money back due to warranty.

that being said, i had to change mine yesterday as well. been on its last legs and this cold snap really did it in... $250 for a new battery!

I have been buying batteries at WalMart for years. At a minimum, I get 3 years out of them usually longer.

I've had good luck with the gel batteries. and like posted before. at 1.5 years old from Oreillys, go bring it back and let them load test it and replace it for you. Should be able to pull up your purchase with your phone # without the receipt.

OReilly sells 10 different batteries for your car, under what appears to be 8 different "models," Optima Yellow, Optima Red, Superstart Premium, etc.

That's like saying "these corn flakes I brought from Walmart suck!"

Just have them test it like another poster said, and depending on the model and the warranty, you will probably get a credit to apply to a new battery.

Your alternator could be on the way out too.

Part of it might not be the brand as much as how you use it and the vehicle it's in. My batteries generally last 7 - 8 years because I am a fan of using trickle chargers regularly. Even my daily driver will get put on one over a weekend night just to give the battery a thorough charge it will otherwise not get from the alternator now matter how long I drive for.

From O'Reilly:
quote:

2) Battery Warranty

The warranty begins on the date of purchase and expires at the end of the warranty period stated on the receipt. Should the battery fail during the free replacement period, O'Reilly Auto Parts will replace it at no cost to the original purchaser.

Any battery that fails as a result of misuse, abuse, low fluid level, freezing, improper installation, or other faulty parts causing damage to the battery are not covered by this warranty.

I would first try to return it and get a replacement.

If returning is not an option or it's denied, get an AGM battery. They do much better in the cold. Although once it gets extremely cold (like continual -20s), no battery is great and you need a warmer.

Bought my last set of truck batteries from these guys - see if they have one that would fit. AGM batteries for a very fair price.

Last battery I bought for the wife's car was a Napa Legend. It's going on 2 years now.
I'm coming up on year 3 of my OEM battery. I will probably replace it with a Walmart MaxStart. My research a while back showed me it's the best bang for your buck, and they often out perform the other guys.

Same here. Cheaper and if I do have to warranty one (just did last month) they don't even test it or nothing. Just check the date on battery and gives me a new one.

After getting stranded in nowhere Wyoming last summer, batteries are now going to be a PM item for me in south LA, one every 3 years. They usually go out shortly thereafter.

After three years of replacing batteries like this every 10-11 months or so, I stopped using their batteries and went with Interstate. This was back in the 2000s so maybe their batteries are better now, but I've haven't had any issues with Interstate batteries since making the change.

Had it tested, said it was “fine”. Had 25% life left in it. Alternator passed the test too. Not sure what’s happening but I’m having to jump it once every 2 weeks. It’s my daily ride

Speaking of jumping…..

I carry a NOCO jump pack and when my battery went out I had to jump myself 4 times the day before my battery was being swapped. 4 times without recharging it.

It makes a nice present for anyone with kids.

They make one for a diesel and I’ve used it as well. Very fine product.

Walmart everstart maxx unless you need AGM or EFB. Same brand as interstate, die hard, duralast and many others. All made by Johnson controls. Optima is now made under another company which is an offshoot of Johnson controls. The batteries are absolute arse. Be aware if your car has lead acid battery and you switch to AGM it might not fully charge and will shorten the life of the battery.

I had AAA do the same shite to me except told me my battery was 90% then they tried to sell me on their batteries. It died repeatedly. Go to a different OReilly and tell them your situation. Have them check the warranty based on your purchase date. They have between 1 - 3 year warranties on batteries depending on the level of which you purchased the battery.

I went to AutoZone/Advanced Auto Parts (can't remember which one but it's a Duralast) and they didn't even question me. They just took my battery and replaced it since it was less than 2 years old and I had a 3 year warranty. Warranty life extends from the original purchased battery so be aware of that.
