Dozens of people were evacuated from the St. Roch area Wednesday morning after a fire broke out an Airbnb that investigators believe is connected to a deadly New Year's Day attack on Bourbon Street.
Law enforcement officials and bomb squad detectives were called to 1329 Mandeville Street after firefighters doused flames that broke out at the rental, according to sources close to the investigation. Investigators believe the Airbnb was rented by the suspect in the Bourbon Street attack, sources said.
Officials did not immediately release more information about the fire.

UPDATE coming soon from authorities ??
Sources now tell FOX - the truck crossed Eagle Pass, TX on November 16th -- not two days ago. The identification of driver that crossed border does not appear to be the shooter. The truck changed hands at some point.

FBI Statement on the Attack in New Orleans
Today, at approximately 3:15 a.m. CST, an individual drove a pickup truck into a crowd of people on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, killing at least 10 and injuring dozens of others. After hitting the crowd, he exited the vehicle and fired upon local law enforcement. Law enforcement returned fire and the subject was pronounced deceased at the scene. Two law enforcement officers were injured and transported to a local hospital.
The subject has been identified as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a U.S. citizen from Texas. He was driving a Ford pickup truck, which appears to have been rented and we are working to confirm how the subject came into possession of the vehicle.
An ISIS flag was located in the vehicle and the FBI is working to determine the subject's potential associations and affiliations with terrorist organizations.
Weapons and a potential IED were located in the subject’s vehicle. Other potential IEDs were also located in the French Quarter. The FBI’s Special Agent Bomb Technicians are working with our law enforcement partners to determine if any of these devices are viable and they will work to render those devices safe.
The FBI is the lead investigative agency, and we are working with our partners to investigate this as an act of terrorism. We are aggressively running down all leads to identify any possible associates of the subject.
The FBI has set up a digital tip line and we ask anyone with information or video of the incident to submit them to LINK or call 1-800-CALL-FBI.

Something going on in Houston now:
FBI Houston and the Harris County Sheriff's Office are currently conducting law enforcement activity near the intersection of Hugh Road and Crescent Peak Drive in north Houston. We have secured a perimeter in that area and are asking people to avoid the area. FBI Houston personnel and specialized teams will be on-site for several hours. This activity is related to this morning's New Orleans attack, but due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, no further information can be provided.

Update from the FBI on New Orleans terror attack:
"Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) personnel from across the country continue to work diligently to further this investigation and evaluate evidence, interview victims and witnesses, and analyze tips related to the New Orleans Bourbon Street attack. Two days into the investigation, the FBI has received almost 1,000 tips, and leads have been sent to FBI Field Offices across the country for investigation.
As of Thursday, January 2, 2025, all evidence recovery along Bourbon Street and a short-term rental home on Mandeville Street in New Orleans, used by subject Shamsud-Din Jabbar, has been completed. At the Mandeville Street location, bomb making materials, which were rendered safe, and other items were found and collected for further processing. FBI special agents located similar materials at the search of Jabbar’s home on Crescent Peak Drive in Houston, Texas.
On January 1 at 5:18 a.m., CST, the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) responded to a fire at the Mandeville Street location after the attack on Bourbon Street. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms (ATF) has determined that Jabbar was the only person who could have had access to the residence when the fire was set. ATF also determined that Jabbar set a small fire in the hallway, and strategically placed accelerants throughout the house in his effort to destroy it and other evidence of his crime. After Jabbar left the residence, the fire burned to a point that it extinguished itself, prior to spreading to other rooms. The ATF investigation revealed that when the NOFD arrived at the scene, the fire was smoldering, allowing for the recovery of evidence, including pre-cursors for bomb making material and a privately made device suspected of being a silencer for a rifle.
Evidence collected from multiple sites are being evaluated to further the investigation. The FBI assesses that during his attack on Bourbon Street, Jabbar intended to use a transmitter, that was found in the F150 truck, to detonate the two IED’s he placed on Bourbon Street. The transmitter, along with 2 firearms connected to Jabbar, is being transported to the FBI Laboratory for additional testing as well as clothing and shell casings from the truck. FBI personnel are also evaluating terabytes worth of video and other data collected by street cameras monitored by the New Orleans Real Time Crime Center.
The FBI continues to surge resources from across the country to assist the New Orleans Field Office. In addition to FBI special agents and personnel based in Louisiana, more than 200 additional personnel have been brought in to assist in this investigation in order to process evidence, support victims, and investigate leads and tips. Personnel support includes, but is not limited to, special agents, victim specialists, evidence technicians, specially trained crisis management personnel, and intelligence analysts.
FBI victim specialists and special agents continue to interview survivors and witnesses. As of January 3, the FBI has identified 35 known injured individuals. The number of injured is expected to rise in the coming days as additional people either take themselves to hospitals with injuries or ask for assistance from the FBI. Fourteen innocent people were killed in the attack. Courageous New Orleans Police Department officers shot and killed Jabbar after he opened fire on them and the crowd on Bourbon Street."

New'ish update:
HOUSTON – FBI officials along with deputies from the Sheriff’s Office were investigating a storage unit in northwest Harris County Monday night.
Several law enforcement officials were seen in and out of at least one storage unit at SpareBox Storage on Walters Road.
FBI officials would not detail what they were trying to uncover in the storage unit and initially wouldn’t tell us more, but later confirmed the heavy law enforcement activity was related to the attack in New Orleans.
Here’s the FBI’s complete (updated) statement:
“I can confirm that FBI Houston and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office were present at the 11900 block of Walters Rd last night conducting court-authorized law enforcement activity related to the Bourbon Street attack.
FBI Houston cleared that location at approximately midnight. There was, and is, no threat to public safety at this time in relation to that activity.”

WAFB article from this morning
quote:
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The FBI released new information on its investigation into the Bourbon Street terror attack Tuesday (Jan. 14) morning.
The FBI now says a total of 57 people were physically hurt in the attack, bringing the total of identified victims to 136.
The FBI also now says the terrorist, Shamsud Di Jabbar, became a more devout Muslim in 2022.
quote:
They say around that time he started isolating himself from society.
Agents say Jabbar came to New Orleans from Houston on a train on November 10. He later returned to Houston on a bus that evening.
The FBI says he looked for an apartment to rent on Orleans Street while in town. Days after his trip, he applied to rent the apartment and told the landlord he changed his mind.
The FBI also looked into Jabbar’s internet search history and found he was looking into Bourbon Street balcony access, information on Mardi Gras, and shootings that happened in the city as late as mid-November.

I don't understand the math they quote regarding the total number of victims because we heard since the beginning that there were 35 or so injured with 14 dead. Now they're saying 57 injured with a total of 136 victims. I'm missing something or they got that reporting wrong.
Also, I swear the article mentioned he was researching the Christmas market attack when I originally posted that. Now that has been removed from the article.

Foreign connection CONFIRMED - Iraq officials arrest ISIS member who helped plan this attack
quote:
NEW ORLEANS — Iraq's Supreme Judicial Council announced that it has arrested a suspected ISIS member for his alleged connection to the New Year's Day attack on Bourbon Street that left 14 dead.
Iraq's National Center for International Judicial Cooperation said in a report that it arrested the suspected terrorist after the United States requested assistance in the investigation of the attack.
According to the report, the suspected terrorist is accused of inciting the attack that also left dozens injured after Shamsud-Din Jabbar plowed a rented pickup truck through a crowd early Jan. 1.
Jabbar, who FBI investigators said was a U.S. Army Signal Sergeant who was radicalized by ISIS, also died in the attack.
The unnamed suspect arrested by Iraqi officials will be prosecuted under the nation's anti-terrorism laws, the report added.

The entire city block bordered by Bourbon, Canal, Royal and Iberville may be the most dangerous in the city.

There are many reasons not to be on the streets of New Orleans at 3 am. Here is an example. This is terrible.

Edit: Since I ended up pretty early on the front page, I wanted to delete my dumb comment and instead use that space to focus on the victims. They deserve to be seen. frick the attention on that murderer.
I'll try to update tomorrow as more names and faces are publically released.

It's not good at all. People being run over and being shot. The barricades in the street weren't even up to stop cars from driving on Bourbon.

Given the time I’m assuming a drunk and not a snackbar
Gotta question why there are no bollards
Edit- nope. definitely looking planned out, waited for bollards to drop, then shot a couple police, and a couple IEDs

There’s been talk of making the quarter a pedestrian only area for awhile. This will probably spark it.
Curious to see what comes of this, hard to imagine terrorists would pick New Orleans but you never know. Could easily be a drunk driver as well.

Are there any more details on Reddit?
My son (24) and a group of his friends went out in New Orleans last night. They were supposed to head to Frenchman, but we’re considering going to Cat’s Meow. They’re probably safe at the hotel, but I haven’t heard from him yet.

You can see the truck in the background and the cops approaching the suspect. Driver apparently fired the first shot then the cops cut down on him.

It’s early so it’s difficult to say exactly what happened but the New York Post via CBS News says the driver plowed into crowds and got out of the truck and began firing on the crowds.
