What’s your favorite crappie jig/lure

Going to try getting back into crappie fishing this year and wondering what people are using winter through spawn. I’ve got a pretty good collection of jigs but some of these new plastic baits look amazing. If I’m going to pay that much for a plastic baits I want to make sure I’m getting the right ones. Will be fishing lakes and bayous in NW Louisiana via kayak.

2” Baby Shad (straight tail) jig in either blue and white or chartreuse and red.

I recommend tying your own jigs. It will give you a new appreciation for the sport and is relatively easy. You will also be able to experiment with different color and patterns.

I've tried hundreds of different crappie lures. I always go back to this simple one. I've literally never gone out and skunked when using these.

We all swear by Wager Baits, he's a local guy and hand ties all his stuff. Can even do customs

I fished Saline Larto pretty heavy for a good many years. In winter I did best with hair jigs, spring through fall I mostly used tube jigs,Crappie nibbles often helped.
White perch(crappie) drove me crazy sometimes.Tube jigs worked well lots of times, sometimes they wanted shiners, other times it had to be tube jigs with shiner liphooked on jig.
Occasionally I did well on Roadrunners,Mini Rattletraps or Beetle Spins thrown with light spinning rod.

If they don’t hit a grey with blue or olive hair hig with a little chartreuse (tie my own) or a black 1/16 head with Bobby Garland Monkey Milk I’m going home.

I grew up making jigs for my dad’s store. I’ve got a pretty good handle on jigs, I was really looking for information on some of the newer plastic baits. There are some that are very realistic but I’m not used to spending $8-$10 on a soft plastic lure.

Bobby Garlands, or hair jigs. Usually hair jigs work better for me in colder water.

I kayak for crappie, usually around submerged trees and bridge pylons. I use the basic tube jig with a 1/32nd oz lead head. My favorite colors are chartreuse/black and pink/black. Blue/Pearl sometimes. When padding from one spot to another, I drop an 1/8 oz roadrunner(red/black/white)behind the yak and “troll” it a few feet deep. It’ll pick up a fish if they’re biting but usually it’s a largemouth or hybrid striper, then it gets interesting, lol.

I tie my own hair and feather jigs in 1/16, 1/32 and they perform well. Favorite colors are blue/white, black/chartreuse

Same. The brand I prefer is Creme-mini tubes. Black body, chartreuse tail. Tip hook with a crappie nibble.
The Bobby Garland colors mentioned here I have also used, and they work, but I have found most success on the above mini-tubes.
Edit to add:
I made this same post here 5 or so years ago and got many suggestions, including many of the same ones made in this thread. I bought one of everything mentioned and just started fishing them. In my lake, the winner was and still is the Creme-mini tubes mentioned above.

Live shiners !
Live fatheads are best for sure, problem for me and probably many others, my local bait store closed down. The owner died and nobody in his family cared to keep it going. The next closest one is 20 minutes one way. And now that one is up for sale, and will probably be a gas station in six months.

Since some of you have included live bait, I would say that live grass shrimp were by far the most effective bait that I have used to catch sacalait.
