Progressives need to see pictures from Jacob Riis to see how fake “poverty” in today’s America is.

We lack perspective in this country living in this bubble
Poverty here now is having an iPhone 12 . Very few are actually going hungry and completely destitute
Go Overseas where you see real actual poverty and it will change your life. It did for me. I’ve become much less materialistic. I don’t need stuff just to have it. I’m content with what I’ve got which is already more than 99% of the world

A lot of people here will agree with this but also be horrified by the idea of raising a family on a salary that’s 3x the poverty line lol

Yep. When you own a car, an iPhone, have air conditioning, basic healthcare, indoor plumbing, reliable electricity, etc, you're not really poor. Ironically, our poorest people are somehow 350 pounds.

Had to sit thru a chamber of commerce lunch about poverty in LA. Lady was talking about Tensas, Madison, and E Carroll parish being the worst and 70% of everyone is on assistance. Bitch please. Everyone I know there has three cash hustles on top of SNAP. Theyre doing just fine by NELA standards. If your starving in LA, it's cuz you're lazy.

this, there is no poverty in the US, certainly not by comparison, there is also a lot less self respect, discipline, and personal pride here

In my 30 years of law enforcement - all on road patrol - I never was in a house that didn't have a color TV and the occupants didn't have cell phones. And I worked in the Glades (Belle Glade, Pahokee, South Bay), Dyson Circle in WPB, San Castle, etc.
There is no poverty in America.

For the most part, yes.
However, go poke around Appalachia and you may change your mind

Poverty in America is self inflicted. I make ~$500k/year and can pull up to any red light and 90% of vehicles are more expensive than mine.
It’s not a poverty problem, it a keeping up with the Joneses and entitlement problem. Also a Doctor/drug dealer problem.

It really is. Poverty and being homeless is a business in this country. Those people make more money than a lot of educated, normal people. I’m jealous of the people who live on Siegen Ln.

Surprisingly, the Glades hasn't produced the level of talent in the last year that they traditionally have.

been sort of out of that loop since I moved out of FL but that place was a hotbed for football talent for a long time, hated to have to go there when my kids played there though

Yeah there are no shortage of contradictions here. The working poor are the most maligned people but the people that make 120K a year simultaneously bitch about barely getting by.

Spent time in Central America recently. People living in shacks, literal shacks with no running water, leaking sheet metal roofs, no climate control, dirt floors, no nothing. Kids working in the fields at 4 years old. Poorest of the poor. I don’t hate on the America poor but they are not in the same class.

Did a mission trip in Guatemala at an orphanage, I wish I could've brought my kids with me to point out how amazing they have it here.
