“Whatever happens, we’re already losing five days of revenue in the busiest time of year, that’s not how restaurants can function,” Gulotta said.

“If I can get open this week, we’ll pull money out of our savings and do it,” he said. “If it’s going to be two weeks, it’s not going to happen.”

The restaurant is Maypop

This place has been open 8 years and can't survive two weeks of closure?

Do they not have business interuption insurance? Decent savings at this ooint? A way to trim costs? Ability to go after the entity that caused the temporary closure?

My experience has been that restaurants are pretty terrible businesses, run by people who have no idea how to run a business, and this seems like more proof.

Let's be honest, most small businesses are poorly run.

I personally don't have the patience, but restaurants operate on a fairly thin margin so a 2 week dent in that would make a huge difference.

Just think about all the businesses that had to still pay rent for a store/restaurant that couldn't even be open during Covid.

Guy I know has a marquis restaurant here in town and he was on the hook for rent which was $50K/month during Covid with no money from the restaurant coming in.

This is likely just fodder for that.

If you've been continuously operating for 8 years and two weeks is all it takes to wipe you out, you have objectively HORRIBLE asset management.

OP should be banned for laziness.

Per the article:

Maypop restaurant in downtown New Orleans was forced to close swiftly after the adjacent building partially collapsed.

No kidding. Why all the cloak and dagger?
With the prices Gulotta charges at TANA in Metairie, he can afford the interruption for at least a month.

Seems like Maypop is in the 10-12K/month range

Do they not have insurance that covers business interruption?
