What’s he supposed to say? That’s the business model. Insurance is a heavily regulated, low growth industry so if he wants his 10-30m a year compensation he’s got to play the game.
Any changes to the approach will be incremental and take multiple years, outside of a complete paradigm shift in the industry that likely would be caused by a change from government and/or regulatory bodies.

In reality insurance should only be carried for serious things. I shouldn’t need insurance for a broken finger or some antibiotics.
Healthcare should be a free market. Not forced to purchase insurance. This has been just a huge wealth transfer.

It does beg a question though. Are all doctors completely pure in their motivations and decision making? Doctors get paid for the treatment they provide so they have a financial motive to advocate for the approval of insurance claims that will pay them regardless of need, likely outcome or risk. Doctors also get sued for malpractice, failure to diagnose things, etc. so they have a financial motivation to order more tests than might be useful or necessary. The patient isn’t likely to protest any unnecessary tests or treatment because they aren’t paying for it. When a third party payor is involved, the usual market forces that balance the cost of goods and services are not there.
Other than insurance, or self-pay patients, who provides the counterbalance to ensure the system operates optimally with only testing and treatment that will likely bring about the best outcome being done?

I feel like a jackass, but from the first day of hearing about the murder, I moved on. I can't believe it's 24x7 part of the news cycle. There's been a lot of murders across the country and I refuse to treat this one any differently than any of the others.
