He probably did but NIL and transfers are getting so out of hand that at some point you’re going to have to adjust on the fly
I respect his early stance about not wanting to pay kids more than his current team, but gotta keep up with the BS that’s going on outside of LSU as well
I feel like if this keeps up, a lot of these coaches that been coaching a long time will start stepping aside like Saban did. And I don’t blame them

I wonder how much of this perceived shift in philosophy is due to Austin Thomas being the GM. Maybe they’ve evaluated data to indicate allocating more money to the portal is better than spending in traditional recruiting.

There is no recruitment anymore. It is a bidding war in an auction and you need to raise money to compete. In state talents can go to the higher bidders if you don't have money.
It is actually better to spend the money in transfer portal for proven players and those who perform right away rather than taking a risk with a HS player who will be in the portal anyway if he is good.

He should update his comment to “the best way to build your roster is through hs recruiting” but it’s becoming clear that if you don’t land the right highschool kids, you ain’t gonna build your roster the right way lol
OR, even if you do, they can leave the following year. College is now the NFL model, you have to use portal as free agency to fill the holes on your squad.

You don't completely abandon HS recruiting and you don't only accept juniors/seniors in the portal. The benefit is he may be less likely to transfer after he's already done it once (to LSU) AND you have better scouting on him.
Sure you go get the top transfer Seniors if you can, but I'd be more interested in getting transfer Sophomores and Juniors.
