South Korea's President Yoon Suk Yeol has declared emergency martial law

In a surprise late night television address he says the move is necessary to protect the country from North Korea's communist forces and to eliminate anti-state elements

The move comes as Yoon's People Power Party and the main opposition Democratic Party continue to disagree over next year's budget bill

The US will act in it’s post-WWII rôle as HOA of the world and make them disassemble this coup.

Can you imagine North Koreans entering South Korea? What a culture shock.

We need to protect against NK's facist Leader-is-God theocracy by declaring martial law. I don't know a ton about SK's political climate but this sounds like bullshite.

Apparently there are also scandals involving Yoon and his wife. I'm no expert on SK politics but it sounds like this guy is trying to use martial law, not because he thinks SK is any more threatened by NK than it normally is, but because he is trying to stifle political opposition.

The opposing party controls the parliament and has cut funding to police, drugs and crime running rampant, decaying civilized society...
Sounds like a typical big city here

Anyone with real insights?

Because half of this board would spell it Marshall Law and the other half doesn't know what it is.

I know historically, South Korea turned extremely nationalistic and nationalized its major industries to build up its economy in I believe the 70s.

I don’t really keep up with Asian politics much but they seem have a dynamic capitalistic society and they make a lot of good movies about eating the rich

Being stationed over there would suck on a whole new level.

Having safety briefs to discuss how to deal with the current situation and how to respect them and blah blah blah.

Followed by some female captain that is gonna just have to put her two cents in because she watched a certain number of enlisted do such a and such and that can not be tolerated

I am willing to open my home to any Korean hotties seeking refuge. Especially the baseball cheerleaders who became famous for this silly dance

Both North Korea and South Korea began as military dictatorships, but only the South shook theirs off. For now, anyway.

There was a story about the North Korean troops helping Russia fight Ukraine, and upon discovering the internet have pretty much just been fascinated with pron and aren't really interested in doing anything else.
