Was Leonard Fournette the first college football player to opt out of a bowl game?

Trying to think back if any players on any other team did it before LF and can't think of any.

I think he was the first healthy player to do it. I think McCaffrey was nursing an injury, but I could be wrong.

Let's not forget that Orgeron told him to.

It does make sense as much as it sucks that it happens

Marcus Lattimore should have been the first

Pretty sure it was the opposite.

I think Fournette was injured pretty much the whole season with a high ankle sprain. He never quite got going that year.

It’s not like the team needed him and it was the citrus bowl. That team was stacked with talent.

He was.

That's why Orgeron told him to opt out. No sense risking your draft stock trying to play through an injury.

Fournette told a story a few years ago that McCaffery called him and asked him if was opting out and wanted to gain alignment on it since at the time they were the top backs coming out of college.

You woke up bright and early to make a shitty/pointless thread to shite on a former player that literally carried an offense on his back.

He definitely missed some games in the regular season too, I think one of the games he missed was when Guice broke the single game LSU rushing record IIRC until TDP a few years later.

I remember Zeke Elliot got on twitter and clutched his pearls about the situation saying something along the lines of "I'd give anything to play for the Buckeyes again". That really made me laugh because he left for the NFL early so he literally could have played for them again if he truly valued another season with OSU over the NFL. Plus the way he announced he was going to the draft, he got all pissy in an interview after a loss to Sparty, talked shite about his coaches, and announced he wasn't coming back when they still had regular season games left.

I think it was the OT from Bama that did. Andre Smith.

For the millionth fricking time.

McCaffery opted out first.

Fournette was injured all year and Orgeron, despite Fournette's insistence, did not let Fournette play in the bowl game.
