Key word being Realistic. Pretend you are a fan or GM of another team and are not looking at things 100% from a Pels fan perspective. I’m going to list some basic 2 team trades and try to match salary for the most part. I’m not great at doing 3-4 team trades, following every CBA rule, etc. Some of you all are elite at it and can fill in the gaps.

1) Brooklyn: Ben Simmons and 3 1st rd picks, 2 swaps for Zion. (Their picks will probably be high.) Cam Johnson, Cam Thomas, and Nic Claxton are all other interesting pieces. (FWIW- Claxton is going to be paid $91M in the last 2 years of his deal). Basically we are committing to the tank if we do this deal and hoping to rebuild through the draft.

2) Miami- Tyler Herro and Kel’el Ware. Basically straight up. I don’t think Zion has much extra value anymore tbh especially in the modern NBA. I also don’t think they would add Jaquez as filler. But Imagine having Ware and Missi potentially panning out as bigs for us (similar to Gafford and Lively in Dallas). I’d follow this move up with trading CJ as well as he’s redundant w Herro.

3) Atlanta- Jalen Johnson and Onyeka Okungwu for Zion and filler salary/trade exception. Jalen is balling this year and looks to have tremendous upside. But I think they’d be tempted to add Zion w Trae.

I know these aren’t amazing, but they are honest stabs at being realistic. We could also take a swing and try to offer Zion and some additional assets to get a better player that is looking for a new team. Giannis would be the pipe dream in this scenario.

But more realistically, it would probably be for someone like Jaren Jackson Jr. I think Morant and Zion would like to play w each other and I don’t think JJJ is diva/big name enough to shut down that trade. We could potentially offer something like CJ, Zion, and 2 firsts for Bane and JJJ. Memphis would probably hate to trade those guys, but their coaching and system is so strong, they could probably take that risk and see if a Ja/Zion combo takes them up into the true contender tier.

Murray
Bane
Ingram
Trey/Herb
JJJ

Jose
Hawk
Boston/Green
Herb/Trey
Missi

That’s actually a squad w a lot of versatility, firepower and professionalism.

We'd be total dicks in latching CJ to Zion in any trade.

If we part with CJ, we need to do right by him and get him to a contender. Think about it, the president of the NBAPA actually WANTED to come to NOLA and has been nothing but a consummate team leader and great player for us.

I personally want no part of Simmons. Too much like zion just thinner. If its just for salary send hin somewhere else or have him stay home as well.

Bane has tremendous value. Not happening and jjj is an elite defensive big man who can defend all over.

I honestly thought Miami who has an interesting piece in jovic

You’re not wrong and ethically that’s probably the right thing to do but we also extended him to 30 mill a year. At this point I prefer the pelicans do whatever is best for the organization rather than whats right by the player.

I think this is the spot (although I like the Hornets as well, with a package built around Bridges and picks). We would have to include someone else to make a deal based around Simmons, based on salary. We should be trying to get under the tax if we are moving Zion. The Nets do have 4 potential 1sts in the 2025 draft, which includes the Bucks' pick (if we don't get the early lottery selection).

I would want Cam Johnson, DFS and 2 1sts (Bucks and Nets picks) for Zion. That would probably give us 3 mid 1st picks (maybe later lottery).

Murray/Alvarado
McCollum/Hawkins
Johnson/Jones
Murphy/DFS
Missi

That's not even including Ingram and what we can get back for him. That's 4 starters that can pour in 15+ppg, with range. Plus a strong bench with lots of depth and versatility. I'd like that core group. It's something to build around and we'd have the assets and flexibility to do it..

I’d say that those might be one and the same though. Ultimately, whatever small trade gain might be wiped out in the long-term by damage to the rep of the organization for not treating players right.

Are there known examples of a team not doing right by a player then down the road that costing them another player?

Who?

Dude has only played in 1 more game than Zion has the last 2 years, and he's already missed 7 games this year.

Where is the shittiest place we could possibly send him?

Whomever that is - what could we get for him from that team?

The Jazz. None of these players want to live in Utah.

Do go after a particular player. Go for the best deal and figure it out from there.

I mean technically we didn’t do right by JJ and still got CJ. Its a business.

I still think Canada would be just kinda a pain in the arse for him. Doesnt seem like he really wants to put effort into anything so moving to another country can be a bit of a headache.

Toronto or Utah are my best bets. OKC from an asset standpoint
