Unpopular opinion: Airport bars > Airport Clubs/Executive Lounges

Anyone else just prefer hanging with the hoi polloi and knocking back $15 beers with all their assorted hustle and bustle, versus the sterile sort of doctor’s office feeling environment of the Executive Lounges and Milage Clubs with their fruit trays and bubbly wines, and constant laptop keyboard clicking background noise.

For me, I’d rather the former pretty much all day every day. Morning beers in a grungy airport bar are an extra special treat.

I wouldn’t have a clue. I haven’t flown commercial in decades, bro.

Naw. The lounges are far superior if only for the quiet private bathrooms

I have never understood the attraction of an airport lounge. At all

Few things in life are as simultaneously wonderful and horrible as spending 12+ hours in airports getting absolutely hammered.

Two doubles $72 after tip the last time I couldn’t get into the lounge. No thanks.

I had a loooong multi-leg trip last year and spent about 300 on booze and food for the whole day. It's not cheap, but it's better than being sober in an airport or in a plane.

I enjoy killing time in an airport. Great people watching.

The recent hassle of having to worry about whether you can even get in to the stupid things, and even being subject to a wait, are yet another strike against them.

I find it enjoyable when I'm by myself, or with one of a handful of friends. With my woman, or family? Either way, the verdict is clear: drink.

I always laugh at the people that have to look like they're super serious and getting real work done

I got beat off by a concierge at the delta sky club about 6 years ago, ever since then I go to the sky club every chance I get, sadly my experience has not repeat itself.

Being able to take a shower during a layover before a long haul flight is worth it alone.

100% spot on. The only advantage to sky clubs is extended layovers

I didn’t realize this was a thing…. Fortunately I haven’t had to fly much in my career.. most of my work has been within driving distance, and i love long drives.. nowadays, when i fly it’s usually 24 or 27 hour epic trips, one-way, but i only do those once or twice per year.. i usually have one-time United passes that allow me into the lounge.. if i was a high-mileage customer and couldn’t get in, id be pissed…. Anyway, the fact that legit members sometimes cant get into lounges just proves that we have too many damn people, and need some type of population control .
