Seriously?

You don't see the appeal of sitting in a clean and quiet environment with private comfortable spaces, free food/drinks and clean private bathrooms?

When the alternative is crowded, noisy, dirty and expensive.

Had a layover for a few hours and sat at the only table open at the airport bar... sat 10 people. Over the next few hours I sat and drank with prob 10 or 15 different people as they passed through. Started out with 1 person asking if they could sit then progressed from there. It was a really fun experience, like making a bunch of friends and learning all about their jobs, kids, lives... and then you never see them again.

ETA - when I finally left there was still a group of random strangers sitting at that table talking. I like to think it's still going.

It’s underrated amazing job being a server/bartender in the airport. It’s the perfect gig

-most people on vacation or on business tabs so they tip generously

-inflated costs that increase bill (and therefore the 20% tip)

-small menus that get food and drinks out quick

-most people in a rush so tables and barstools turn over quickly all day

Anyone else just prefer hanging with the hoi polloi and knocking back $15 beers with all their assorted hustle and bustle, versus the sterile sort of doctor’s office feeling environment of the Executive Lounges and Milage Clubs with their fruit trays and bubbly wines, and constant laptop keyboard clicking background noise. For me, I’d rather the former pretty much all day every day. Morning beers in a grungy airport bar are an extra special treat.

Completely agree. I travel for work a lot and much rather shoot the shite with other ppl coming and going than dealing with all the goobers stuffing themselves into some Sky Club with their new credit card benefits

Vegas airport is the best. Enclosed mini casino rooms with full bar, slot machines, and can smoke in them.

It does seem pretty legit now that you broke it down. Plus, I could sit and talk to random strangers all day.

Always thought the smoking rooms at ATL were the only ones of their kind. Guess I've been too fricked up to go exploring for places to gamble and smoke.

Tend to agree in terms of camaraderie and scenery (i.e. attractive women), and the clubs tend to be overcrowded now. The private bathrooms in the clubs are cleaner, though.

I enjoying talking to the random folks that are at a bar like that because there is always someone with a unique story or situation they are in that brought them to that airport.

Where I am at with young kids, an airport is the closest I get to going out to a bar besides work functions

In college, the airport lounge at Monroe Airport was always a great time.

What are these places you speak of? I should look around more where are they? I just park my car walk to the plane & go ? Why would you wait? Are you waiting on people you’re traveling with? They don’t have their own plane ?

In general I’m not that big of a fan of the executive lounges. They are nicer in some airports than others. In most cases I prefer the airport bar. I fly at least twice a month so I spend a decent amount of time in airports.

The lounges were ok but I never cared much one way or other.. I sorta lust liked sitting at the bar close to the gate.. and yeah I will agree when I stopped flying commercial the company plane airports were much better and I enjoyed having the pilot load my luggage..

Not unpopular. It's correct.
