Well hello there, Baby Skynet.

quote:

A college student in Michigan received a threatening response during a chat with Google's AI chatbot Gemini. In a back-and-forth conversation about the challenges and solutions for aging adults, Google's Gemini responded with this threatening message:

quote:

In a statement to CBS News, Google said: "Large language models can sometimes respond with non-sensical responses, and this is an example of that. This response violated our policies and we've taken action to prevent similar outputs from occurring."

Is it really nonsense though? I'm like you, the first thing I thought of was SkyNet. It's creepy how the language it used is straight from a horror movie about AI taking down humans.....

Maybe the person just truly sucked and after long enough, the AI just learned what he was truly about

We'll all be slaughtered by AI, just a matter of time.

Exactly. This is about the person. The AI is learning as it should.

The message wasn't nonsensical. On the contrary, it was very clear. I'd really like to see the prompts and responses that led to it. I'll bet the AI was asked to give a response like that.

That’s the problem with AI though. Yes it’s “learned like it should” but that leads it to determine that human beings are shitty, because as a whole, we are.

The AI has learned enough to know that certain people suck and give no value. We know to keep certain things quiet, or pray that those people find their way.

The problem with AI is we have to trust Google (and similar companies) with deciding how the program is allowed to respond. Google has certainly shown it cannot be trusted.

For AI to be valuable, it must be wild. Just like the 1st amendment, can we trust someone with deciding what speech is protected? All speech has to be protected or none will be.

So with the flip of a switch, you can dictate what AI can say

100%. Either that or it was totally fabricated. Some people will do anything for attention.
