What's you favorite small city in all of Europe?

I'm arbitrarily deciding that small means a population of less than 50,000.
My choice is Angra do Heroismo on Terceira Island, Portugal.
I love the pretty churches, the kind people, the way that people care for their streets and public property, the beef stew called alcatra, the old Spanish fort overlooking the city, and the extinct volcano just outside town where you can descend into the magma chamber.

Alba, Italy
Home of the famous white truffle and right in the middle of the Barolo and Barbaresco wine region. The food there is simply amazing and other than risotto is not what Americans think of as Italian food.
And you can get views like this of the Alps in the region.

Tarragona, Spain... absolutely fantastic little city about an hour and half outside of Barcelona heading south.

Town still using Roman walls in modern buildings, tons of history, market has a glockenspiel, they build human towers, and have a festival there, on the Mediterranean, with a small colosseum right on the water and an extremely picturesque aqueduct there, really cool city!

Lauterbrunnen Switzerland for me. That whole area is the most fascinating place on earth that I’ve been.

Hmm guess depends what we define as a small city here. When I think of a small city I think of anywhere from at bare minimum 30k inhabitants but more like 50k and up to 250k.
A lot of what’s in this thread seems more like small towns/villages, I digress enough being a pedantic wanker, some of my favorites:
- Heidelberg, DE
- Cádiz, ES
- Granada, ES
- San Sebastián, ES
- Sintra, PT
- Maastricht, NL
- Innsbruck, AT
- Garmisch-Partenkirchen, DE
- Vicenza, IT

Schwäbisch Hall- basically a smaller Nuremberg that was never bombed. Original buildings are near-perfectly preserved
