Albert Breer confirms that Gayle and Mickey were at odds over firing DA

Benson and her group were hearing from the fan base in a way they hadn’t before,” Breer wrote. “And their resolve was strengthened through that, to the point where perception inside the building holds that Allen might’ve been fired Monday even if he’d beaten the Carolina Panthers.”
…
One nugget I picked up the past couple of days,” he said. “Is that this decision was very much driven by ownership, with Gayle Benson reaching a breaking point with the team’s struggles over the past few weeks. (General Manager) Mickey Loomis, I’m told, didn’t want to pull the plug on Allen yet.”

Mick was going to likely fire him but I'm sure wanted to wait until after the season as the sacrificial lamb...with Allen gone, the focus probably now starts to turn to how awful the roster is and our bleak cap outlook from years of punting that netted you nothing.

Hopefully they’re also at odds over Mickey’s job.

Or mickey wanted to tank and knew Allen could do it.

If that were the case he wouldn’t have extended AK. No, Loomis was hoping Allen would win enough games at the end of the season to justify keeping him because of the injuries.

This can def cause enough smoke to put the heat on Gayle to move Loomis to a different position and basically put him out to pasture.

You could read that in the team's statement. Mickey would've kept him, but Gayle was smart enough to know that something had to give.

This makes sense because Loomis is afraid that he is next in line. And if Gayle has her ear to the ground like this suggests, that may be the case. Loomis won’t get fired, but he may get kicked upstairs.

My suggestion to Mickey is to see Gayle every day and tell her, in great length, how big of a mistake she made.
Be aggressive about it.
Be aggressive about it.

She fires Loomis and I will gladly eat my bowl of crow.
I just don't think it will ever happen.

Exactly. Loomis knows his arse is in the crosshairs and he can't avoid it or blame anyone else now. All the Gayle hate. It's obvious she has a group around her and it doesn't include Mickey. I now have little doubt she is well aware of the cap mess. If Loomis makes it to the end of the season I think he will still be moved out.

The way I see it. The owner picks their GM and Head coach. GM works with HC to choose players and manage the money.

Props to Gayle for this, but Loomis needs to go.
