They still sell them, so someone must be buying them.

I sort of regret not keeping my grandpa’s old one when we cleaned out his house.

They are still available at Walmart. They are not expensive. The range is limited. The range is based on the quality and strength of your antenna.

Not nearly as popular as they used to be.

CB’s were fun on road trips before everyone had cell phones.

My old man still has his, and it is set up in the garage. It is always good to listen to during hurricanes/severe weather. It is the same one that he had in his car back in the 70's. Back then, his handle was "Rebel Yell."

Very popular back in the late 80s and early 90s before cellphones. You could also change bands and shoot “skip” and talk to people around the world when the weather and atmosphere conditions were aligned. It died off after the world was connected via the internet.

Are you familiar with a 500 watt (illegal) linear amplifier?

ETA- By illegal I mean using one with a CB radio goes against FCC rules.

10-4, catch you on the flip side good buddy!

The one I had in my pick-up truck had a solid range of 12 to 15 miles. It was certainly useful when I'd drive home from Baton Rouge to eastern Kentucky for spring break or at the end of a semester. Kept me from getting more than a few citations for speeding.

Talking to other folks was certainly enjoyable, but just listening in on some of the conversations taking place could provide some pure gold entertainment!

Careful. My uncle did 8 years in Leavenworth for that.

A trucker did a long AMA thread on here recently. I think he said that he does not use a CB, but some still do.

I’ve still got an old one in storage room. Many ham radio operators got started in CB.

Back in late 70s they were very popular…. especially due to Smokey and the Bandit.

“Hey driver…. How’s it looking over your shoulder towards the Smoke City (B’ham). ?”

“Looking good. Hammer down!”.
“You’re looking good towards the Rocket City (Huntsville).”

We used to use them for trail rides in our Jeeps. But, everyone is moving over to the FRS/GMRS radios. So, I have both mounted in my rig but havent used the CB in a couple of years.
