Pretty sweet revenge idea for Trump to lower the deficit and deliver a kill shot to the legacy media at the same time....

Why would anybody bid on this?

Very few people still use antennas and even allowing for that there is plenty of space for over the air crap

The future is probably wireless streaming over private cellular networks.

Then there is no reason NOT to then. Bring in some extra money by putting that spectrum up for bid.

Agreed. I don’t know what these will be worth in 5 years.

Yay. Screw the free press! The Founders would be happy, I’m sure.

In what way is this suppression of the free press?

Why shouldn’t these companies have to compete/bid to use public airwaves?

A free press is all well and good if that free press isn't actively working as a propaganda arm for a political party and intentionally putting out misinformation as fact.

That's not a free press - nor was that the intention of the constitution when guaranteeing a free press.

public licenses are supposed to abide by certain rules, which ABC/CBS/NBC have clearly violated in their blood thirst against Trump. FAFO

They would be very happy about eradicating state-run media, which is what these networks have become.

Sure. Nothing says free press like being beholden to one political party and nothing else

This would require epic due process due to the property rights concerned.

Just as an easy example for this board, take ABC. Their NBA/CFB contracts are tied to the company, not the frequency. The government can't just change the game at halftime and leave them holding the bag.

There is a lot of jurisprudence on this in the administrative law setting if you'd like to review the scholarship. Sacks is a lawyer and knows this.

Imagine that goat rope, sorry you can't make a 911 call because there is no bandwidth available because some stupid bachelorette show is being streamed.

During the Rogan interview Trump bemoaned the fact we give away these licenses for free even though they are worth billions. Do it Trump! Do it!

Trump is always one step ahead.

Stupid. The networks only own a handful of stations. Otherwise the networks dont have (and don't need) "licenses". from the government. As it should be.

I get (and share) the disdain for the media. But it has nothing to do with spectrum auctions.

Broadcast licenses are for 8 years and have to be renewed and the license holder has to apply for this renewal.

Is this renewal process a sham and the current holder is entitled to the renewal?
