not just cameos, legitimate acting roles.
and not the other way around (actors playing music)
the most interesting to me is Mickey Jones. You know him and love him as the auto mechanic/sheriff in “vacation”
he had a long career as a character actor including roles in “home improvement”, “sling blade”, “justified” etc.
What you might not know is that Mickey Jones was the drummer for maybe the most impactful and chronicled rock tour ever…Bob Dylans 1966 world tour with the musicians (less Levon) who would later become the band.
that’s Mickey Jones on drums with Bob and robbie
in addition to that, Mickey Jones was the drummer for the First Edition, Kenny Rogers original band and played on such hits as as "Something's Burning", "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town" and "Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)".

Dexter Gordon in Round Midnight. Believe it was his only film appearance, and he played a great role. Also, Levon Helm was in Coal Miner's Daughter, The Right Stuff, and the little seen In The Electric Mist.

Chris Isaak is closely associated with film director David Lynch, who has used his music in numerous films. As an actor, he played supporting roles and bit parts in films such as Married to the Mob, The Silence of the Lambs, Little Buddha, That Thing You Do! and Lynch's Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, and starred in two television series: the sitcom The Chris Isaak Show and the talk show The Chris Isaak Hour.

Still no Tom Waits???
Braham Stroker's Dracula, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, The Outsiders, Down by Law, The Dead Don't Die, Coffee and Cigarettes, The Book of Eli, Big Time, Seven Psychopaths, Shortcuts, At Play in the Fields of the Lord, The Two Jakes, Mystery Train, Iron Weed, and The Cotton Club. That is not all of his film credits but it is better than most actors.
