so been playing with the standings calculator i linked yesterday

If we split the next two and win out.....we are going to be in the conference championship game unless every time a team on our schedule plays one that we dont play...they lose.

this is pretty much the only scenario i can come up with that would have us not going and honestly that woudnt be a bad thing as it would have us sitting well inside the top 12 and as the SEC #3 team

what i am worried about is us getting to the championship game with 2 losses and losing a 3rd and being knocked out the playoff

so best thing to do is hope no matter what happens saturday is for A&M to win out the rest of the way and hope a couple teams we have on our schedule lose, specifically South Carolina to Mizz

if that happens...they win and we lose...they go against UGA

the amount of chaos this 12 team playoff is going to bring along with parity in the SEC is out of control and I love it

Why do people keep pretending this is a possibility? The 2nd place SEC team isn't going to miss the playoffs.

We all know a 10-2 SEC team is very likely going to make the playoff, and a 9-3 team likely isn't.

Yep, gotta win 1 of the next 2

I’ll take 2 wins for sure, but everything still on table if we can win 1 of 2

Exactly what I texted my buddies earlier this morning

this

if we split next two...then we would be 10-2 going in.....lose that and lets say UGA wins out, UT wins out, A&M only loses in CG and Tenner also only has 2 losses

highly doubt we making it

I believe the committee has already stated that no teams will get knocked in the rankings for losing a conference championship. The only teams that can jump you are teams that won a conference championship.

We wouldn't be 9-3, we would be 10-3. They aren't going to put in a two teams that didn't make the SEC championship over a team that did. The only reason that would happen in the past is because of divisions, which we don't have anymore.

I hate aTm and hate Bama even more.

You may call me a greedy bastard, but I want to win them both and really believe we will if we perform to the level of which we are capable.

It's very much a possibility.

In 2017 10-2 Auburn entered the SECCG ranked #2 in the CFP polls on the heels of wins over Georgia and Alabama. Auburn lost the SECCG to Georgia and was subsequently left out of the CFP in favor of both Georgia and Alabama...two teams they had beaten. The ONLY reason Auburn didn't reach the CFP is because they were forced to play another game Alabama didn't have to play.

Last year Georgia was 12-0, ranked #1 in the CFP going into the SECCG. They lost, and were left out of the CFP in favor of 12-1 Texas. The ONLY reason Georgia didn't make the CFP is because they were force to play an unnecessary conf. championship game against a MUCH tougher opponent than Texas had to play.

Obviously, those two examples were in a 4 team playoff situation. But even with 12 teams, there are really on 7 at large spots. Currently, the SEC is the only P4 conference where every team has at least 1 loss. That means the SEC champ will have AT LEAST 1 loss. Looking at the remaining schedule either LSU or A&M will get a second loss on Sat. Either UGA or Tenn. will get a second loss when they play. Most likely best case scenario is the SEC ends up with three 1 loss teams. Realistically, that number is probably two...at best.

The Big 10 had three undefeated teams right now and one with 1 loss. Looking at the schedules ahead, you are probably going to see 2-3 teams with no less than 2 losses at the end of the season. The ACC is a dump. But they have 6 teams right now with 1 or fewer losses. It's not unreasonable to think they could get two or more teams that finish the season 10-2 or better. The Big 12 is going to canibalize itself, but still has a reasonable chance to have two teams at 10-2 or better. Then you have ND who probably finishes...at worst...10-2.

Last year we went into conf. championship weekend with 12 teams with 2 or fewer losses. 4 of that group would have gotten auto bids. But the rest would have been left to hope to snag one of the 7 at large spots. None with 3 losses.

In a reasonable world the committee looks at SOS and would be willing to take a 10-3 team over a 10-2 team or maybe even 11-1 team that played in a much weaker conference. That happens every year in the NCAA Basketball tournament. But with so few spots available the CFP committed could be very lazy and simply say LSU has 3 losses...the other teams have only 2, and not give any consideration to the fact the 3rd loss occurred ONLY because LSU had to play an additional game the other 2 loss teams didn't.

The smart and reasonable thing to do would be to eliminate conf. Championship games because they are completely unnecessary. But what will almost assuredly happen is the playoffs will be expanded again to accommodate conf. championship game losers. It's stupid...but that is going to happen.

At least FSU won’t have anything to stress out about at the end of the season.

It's a very real possibility that a 10-2 SEC team (ranked somewhere between 8-12) goes to the SEC championship and loses to go 10-3 and is barely left out.

For the sake of the argument, lets say LSU and UGA are tied on record for second place in the SEC with both having one conference loss, but LSU goes to the SECCG on a manufactured tiebreaker because the two teams never played each other in the regular season.

Now, lets say LSU loses to an undefeated Texas A&M in the SECCG (again for the sake of the argument), putting it at three total losses and two SEC losses. If it comes down to 3-loss LSU and 1-loss UGA for the final playoff spot, UGA is definitely getting in over LSU.

If we lose one game and win out and then lose in the SECC, you realize we’d have 3 losses, right?

There will be a lot of arguing about a 3 loss team being included for sure.

It’s sucks that the loser of the championship game will be punished while teams who sat at home get the benefit of not playing and getting healthy and not having to error about a L against a tough team.

This scenario cant happen, UT plays A&M so one of them getting a loss in the regular season.
