I Tried Best Stop Boudin from Zuppardo's Today

I occaisionally go to Zuppardo's to get my groceries, and I've learned that they carry Best Stop products. I went to buy some andouille (they were out today).
While looking over their spread, I realized I had never seen their boudin there. Turns out they keep it in the frozen food cases. ($7.49 a pound.)
Upon tasting the boudin just now for the first time, it was very, very good. It tasted meaty and had a delicious pepper profile that hit you after the fact.
I do have 2 criticisms, though.
#1 It needs salt. I'm on a low salt diet so I am sensitive to salt levels. It needed salt.
Secondly, there were few grains of rice that were recognizable as rice. The rest was mush. Still tasted great, though.
Overall, I thought it was great, though and I will be buying it again.
Best Stop products I have seen at Zuppardo's:
Andouille
Pork Smoked Sausage
Pork and Beef Smoked Sausage
Pork and Pepper Jack Smoked Sausage
Pork and Pepper Jack Grillers (short links of Pepper Jack Smoked Sausage)
Frozen:
Mild Boudin
Smoked Boudin

I know I’m in the minority but I don’t think their sausage is very good.

this was my problem with their product. its very mushy, and also found it very fatty. maybe i got a bad batch but i was disappointed for the amount of love it gets on here.

If you're in the New Orleans area you need to try Boudin by Jamison if you haven't already. His is some of the best around. Best stop not a bad choice though.

Cajun Element at the Destrehan Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings. Easily the best boudin. I've had Don's, Billy's, Best Stop, not even close.
Posted this in the other thread.

Where can you find the boudin by Jamison?

Who buys frozen boudin?
I can see if you are shipping it to your kids who live out of state. But if you live in Louisiana, get your boudin fresh. Not everyone lives near the Best Stop. Pick a boudin place close to where you live and get it there.
Besides, boudin is always best before the tank is full of gas.

Lots of folks.

I do, Cajun Element sells it frozen. I leave it out the counter for an hour or so then on to the smoker. Easily better than all the time I wasted chasing boudin across the basin. Not even worth the trip for me.

I've said this for years but have found that since they've gone to mass production their smoked products are not as good. I don't think the seasoning/recipe has changed but don't find any of their stuff has as good of a smoked flavor.

The small party links are less peppery with more meat.
My little boy loves boudin, he wouldn't eat the bigger links.

Agreed.

Best Stop does not use much rice in their boudin, more meat products, so that is how it usually is, and nothing wrong with that. Their smoked boudin is very good.

I'm not crazy about their cracklins, either.. Little red pepper balls. Like a cayenne pepper jawbreaker.

I think their smoked boudin taste a lot better than the regular.
