Is TCU done?

Dykes took them to the NC only to be thoroughly humbled and reminded who they really are. Truthfully, Georgia could
have beaten them 100-0 if they wanted to.

Since then, TCU has gone 5-7 and they’re currently 3-3 after just being beaten, at home, against a now 2-4 Houston team. Texas and Oklahoma
left the Big 12, rendering the conference borderline meaningless. SMU has surpassed TCU in terms of football.

Are they done?

They were always gonna be an average to above average P4 team. That is their ceiling

They just caught lightning in a bottle and had a horseshoe up their arse in 2022

They do have an extremely wealthy alumni base and NIL money but private schools like that will always have some disadvantages.

The right coach could win big there. Dykes isnt it. They looked overmatched and disinterested last night, and Houston is a bad team.

Wasn’t it 7-7 at one point?

All of the private schools will have their time in the sun but fall back down to to poor to average for FBS football.

Baylor was the laughingstock of the Big XII for almost 20 years and had a good little run from 2012-2021. Now they’re back to being Baylor.

SMU appears to have that streak at this point.

They were doomed by that targeting penalty. I'm still pissed about that.

Since they joined in the Big 12 in 2012 it's been pretty up and down. A few really good years and a bunch of mediocre to poor years.

Patterson
7-6
4-8
12-1
11-2
6-7
11-3
7-6
5-7
6-4
5-7

Dykes
13-2
5-7
3-3*

Texas sucking arse helped all the other Texas schools recruiting in a big way

That OT win against Michigan aside, TCU did not belong in the playoff in 2022.

:Waves in Tulane fandom:

Just to kinda add....you will have people within the school that hates athletics and will do anything to make having a program difficult.

I understand that the 6-4 record was covid and you can kinda look over that but did Patterson just not recruit well towards the end? That's a pretty significant nose dive coming off an 11 win season.

I mean has any team in Texas had sustained success in the last 19 years?

Done with what exactly? TCU isn't a program that has "CFP or bust" expectations, so what standard are they being held to here?

They had 4 turnovers last night while Houston had none. They had 5 turnovers and 14 penalties against SMU. It doesn't require deep analysis to see why they're losing.

I think SMU might be built for NIL.

Just like any team in college football, we are down right now. It is rare for teams to be consistently good and only teams like Bama, Michigan, Ohio State, etc are. So to answer your question, our school is not done for not having a ranked team this year.

Patterson

I always find his career arc interesting. He went to TCU with Dennis Franchione as DC. Franchione goes on a seven year profession and personal journey of failure and is essentially out of football after the 2007 season.

Meanwhile Patterson, takes over when Fran leaves and has a 20 year run with some memorable seasons and a few big wins. Patterson was smart to not go chasing bigger game like his ex boss.
