And should be eliminated. Ever since Fournette got hurt his Junior year, it’s been a curse. Let’s look at the legacy:

2017:
DJ Chark - decent year, nothing special

2018:
Jonathan Giles - absolutely awful, should have killed the tradition right there

2019:
Grant Delpit - lingering injury all year - never returned to dominance even in the league - we haven’t had a dominant safety since

2020:
Ja’marr Chase - opted out that year - seemingly dodged a bullet - number 7 could have left a mark on his soul but he’s been dominant in the league

2021:
Derek Stingley - played in 6 games - was hurt most of year - still hasn’t returned to dominance in the league

2022:
Kayshon Boutte - I had to look up his name he was such a non factor his final two years here - starting to see a major trend with guys with dominant freshman seasons then fading into irrelevance - played the whole season after a gnarly injury the previous year - remains a shell of his former self

2023:
Will Campbell - couldn’t physically wear number 7 - turned out good for him

2024:
Harold Perkins - we all know this story - can be lumped in with Stingley and Boutte - out for year - will get drafted - will probably never return to dominance

This is all highly superstitious stuff. I don’t know how it all works, but I wouldn’t touch number 7 with a ten foot poll if I were a player, just like I probably wouldn’t take the cover of Madden. If you count Fournette in 2016, that’s nine years of floppage for number seven. I think BK should let this one die and I think there’s empirical evidence not to be ignored, even though the forces at work here are mysterious. What say ye, fair minions of the rant. .

You’re wrong about both of these, they are both great pros.

Also, nobody cares what the fans think. The players still want to wear it.
I hope we get to see Jujuan Johnson or Dashawn Spears wear it

Yeah, was wondering about those two with the NFL comment.

It should have stayed on defense.

The number thing is dumb. If you believe Mauck “passed down” his number to a 2-star recruit he was never teammates with (of course they both go along with the story) i have some beachside property in Utah I’d like you to take a look at.

These 2 comments really show that you don't actually know what you're talking about. Derek Stingley is about to reset the market for CB contracts and was a borderline all pro last year. Everyone in Cleveland loves Grant Delpit and everyone but casuals know who he is and that he is a good player. Nobody is gonna take you seriously making comments like that.

Signed a 3 year 36 million dollar contract last offseason

He’s one of the top 10 highest paid safeties in the league

Just say you don’t watch or follow nfl

Stingley is one of the better corners in the NFL

Lol you really thought this post was going to turn out good for you didn't you?

DJ Chark was the team's leading receiver and had 543 more yards than the next guy in 2017 btw

I guess being a top 3 corner in the NFL is not considered being dominant?

Don't agree with the NFL careers you're seeing.

But you're right in every player who has actually worn #7 since 2017 has battled injuries or didn't play.

I had always heard that he was popped for drug test and was going to have to serve a suspension so LSU told him to opt out to avoid falling in the draft.

IDk if true. But he was very pro "let us play" when the B1G commish tried to shut he season down. Then he opted out seemingly out of nowhere.

If you want to award captains patches, do that. The manufactured love for the number got ridiculous. Single digit numbers always ended up in playmakers hands because it’s LSU.

Certainly while they're at school it seems to be the case. Give it to a special teams/walk on for a couple years to break the chain

I can see Durham wearing it before either Johnson or Spears

I get what you're saying about more recently, but lets not ignore Fournette wearing it in 2014 when he had the 2nd best RB year in the SEC behind Hershel Walker

Or Honey Badger wearing it and finishing 2nd for the Heisman as a DB

Or Patrick Peterson being the most dominate CB in college football in the last 10 years.

You guys are beating a dead horse with your #7 logic. It's not about YOU and your feelings. Why does it bother some of you?

I promise you... those kids don't give a shite about the fan's opinion on #7 and #18.
