Making a cake is not an option, coming from out of town. Round layer cake, chocolate cake with chocolate icing is what I'm looking for. Any recs much appreciated.

Les Amis is great for all cakes, but may be overkill for what you need.

Gambino's is a third option, although Les Amis is my favorite.
Most better grocery stores also carry cakes most days.

Ambrosia has gone way down in quality. Whole Foods, surprisingly, has a very good bakery.

Costco makes a good cake if you aren't looking to spend a lot.

I agree, I’m not sure what happened to Ambrosia, but I’d look for another option.

I got a chocolate cake from Rouses for a going away party at work and it was pretty good. Folks liked it.

Les Ami is incredible. It’s quite expensive and fancy but if you are looking to impress…

Whole Foods bakery is gross. Flies and gnats always flying around inside the case.

Rouses has good cakes. My go-to if not a specialty bakery cake. No Oak Point here so can’t compare.

From someone who used to make cakes professionally...Oak Point all the way. I can't buy the ingredients as cheap as they sell the whole cake! Their doberge cakes are better than Baum's were.

Always thought Ambrosia was overrated, especially their "famous" strawberry cake. Isn't it just Cool Whip with strawberries?

Costco has good tuxedo cakes and tiramisu. I think they’re like $14 or so.

Oak Point is excellent. I have never been dissatisfied with any cake from there.

For chocolate on chocolate however, I have bought a couple from Sugar Me Sweet in Central. They are relatives of the Baum’s owners. They nail the chocolate buttercream.
