It's hotter than a whore on nickel night here in the deep south. Could have sworn Love Bugs start flying around this time of the year and signaling that cool weather is on the horizon. Good luck tomorrow UCLA, not sure you really know the July type temps you're stepping into.

Good question. Usually cars are covered in them this time of year.

Had one in my pool yesterday but that is the only one I have seen thus far and I am outside daily.

They showed up in the free state of Livingston a few weeks ago but were very few in number. Haven’t saw anymore since the storm.

What could be keeping their numbers down this season? Weather? Pesticides?

From ChatGPT:

quote:

This season has seen a notable drop in the number of love bugs along the Gulf Coast, including Florida. Experts speculate that factors such as extreme heat, increased pesticide use, and changes in the environment could be impacting their population. Love bug larvae rely on decaying organic matter in moist soil to thrive, and extended dry or hot conditions may be disrupting this cycle. While it's unclear if this is a long-term trend, their decreased presence has been a surprise this year?(Weather Underground).

ChatGPT sourced that from a Weather Underground article from last October.

Sounds like the drought last year knocked their population down and they have not recovered.

A pox on you and your ilk for summoning those demons!

I gotta take a road trip next week and just washed my truck, so I'm sure I'll find plenty of them.

They are here. I hope that they stay as inactive as they are right now.

These factors didn't stop them the last two years.
