Not enough throws downfield to back them off.
Multiple missed assignments on some good play calls.
I’m most disappointed in interior run blocking and the stupid penalties.

Literally what we have all said. We ran the ball effectively on one drive. Other than that we left a lot to be desired. And really John did most of that on 1 carry.

Amen.

How in the hell does our #7 and captain get a false start?

I’m hoping the first half was Sloan and BK meddled at half to change the philosophy.

“We need to run the ball more.” Why Brian? What an idiot. Let your coordinators do their jobs.

But certain morons (who want to blame Nuss) claim we didn't start running failed run plays more in the second half.

There doesn’t have to be balance in play calls between run plays and pass plays. Your plays should be based on what the defense shows you. In the game today every running play should have a pass audible and every pass play should have a run audible and Nuss should switch based on the defense.

Completely agree with the comments about running the ball effectively. I think my biggest complaint was we looked very Miles'esque. Meaning we ran the ball directly up the middle with no variation for most of our running plays. When we did decide to run outside, we had some good success. It wasn't 100% success, but we did have some good runs. It blows my mind when coaches continue running the ball directly into the heart of an 8 man box and think that this will produce successful results. Hopefully, we mix up the running game with some runs to the outside and off-tackle. With the strength of our line being the 2 tackle positions, I would think this will produce better results than running into the middle of the defense.

This did not happen. USC played a 2-High Safety look mainly play Quarters or Cover 4. Their safeties filled the alleys but they did not load up the box. That is why it was so frustrating that we couldn't run the ball. USC loaded the box on the quick third down in the 4th quarter after the turnover on downs but that was it. When we ran the ball it was against light boxes. Their safeties did a good job filling the alleys but it was not a loaded box at all.

Inability to see what's in front of you can be a dangerous thing.

If this is true wouldn't it imply we did just run directly into the heart of the defense over and over making it easy on them?

This!…and the strength of USC’s defense are their tackles. The strength of our offensive line or our left and right tackle. Why the hell are we running between the guards and center instead of off tackle?

No. It implies the opposite; that we were taking what the defense was giving, and we STILL couldn’t take it.

When you have downhill RBs and constantly call shotgun handoffs, what in the hell do you expect? Also, you have a young interior OL, run the damn ball outside!

The OC's did the team no favors with the shitty calls in the 2nd half.
