Can we give USC and Lincoln Riley some credit?

USC obviously got much better through the portal and Riley has produced 3 heisman trophy winning qbs.

I don’t think our fanbase thought less of USC because most thought it would be a close game. Most are frustrated because that game was winnable down the stretch.
Credit to their d-line though, they didn’t back down from the hyped LSU front.

They were good. I wouldn't crown them tho. My issues are with situational playcalling and self awareness.

I think everyone can acknowledge USC is a better team than they were last year.
But it looks like we are too, and clearly could’ve taken that game.
That’s where the frustration comes from.

Play calling. I am mad about our play calling and getting too conservative in the second half. Nuss like to throw the ball. I hate to say it but Nuss would shine in that "Joe Brady" offense and its concepts.

USC didn’t win the game. LSU lost it. Undisciplined, unlucky breaks, and shitty play calling.

The issue isn't "We lost to a shitty USC team and that means we suck."
The issue is we were on the verge of beating what is pretty clearly a solid USC team and we let it slip through our fingers, putting us in the same position that we've been every year of the Brian Kelly era despite the fact that we have made some clear improvements to our team as well.

Sure. He had his team ready and didn’t make stupid in game decisions like BK did.
He was far and away the better coach in that game.

No, we pissed down our legs AGAIN.
We lost that game, they didn’t win it.

Lincoln did improve his D by hiring a good dc which BK did as well. He just took the extra step and used the portal to get more talent

Scary to think that not a single person on this board would have agreed with this before the game. In fact, posters on here thought of Riley as a high school level football coach.

100% credit to Riley, Lynn and that entire defensive staff
really good turnaround by them to get in players that can be physical and play like it

Two of those three things are just who we are as a team. You act like it was done to us by some external force.

Or maybe USC won the game because they were disciplined, coaches called a great game, they were improved and prepared and had a few lucky breaks.

2 chances to make it an 11 point game and you fail to add any points.

We tied the game with under 2 minutes and they had 1 timeout left. They had to drive 50+ yds in order to get a chance to win. Even without the targeting penalty (which I think was wrong, you have to come up and drill the WR on that play), they got to the 30, in range for a long game-winning kick. They executed when it mattered, they won the game.

I agree but their QB was much better than Nuss. He never panicked and threw some great passes under pressure. Nuss just threw the ball away under pressure. Just like the 2nd and 8 on the last drive. A man in his face and he threw it at Anderson feet. A good throw and that might be a score. Maybe he will learn not to be so scared and run or just take the hit and make a good pass

LSU's OL did a great job (absent the 4th down blitz on the opening drive) in pass protection. After watching things again, it was kind of a stalemate between the LSU OL and USC DL in the run game. Where LSU was killed is USC would commit extra defenders and LSU couldn't block them. The TEs were awful in that aspect.
I don't think Riley significantly out-schemed LSU's defense. LSU got pressure. USC only had 72 yards rushing on 3.3 ypc. There weren't a ton of plays where LSU's defense was fooled with the playcall. It's just that USC's guys, particularly their receivers, won more of the one-on-one battles with LSU's defenders. So I don't think it was so much that Riley was great as it was the USC players were in big spots.
