Cliffs:
First question he was asked about him saying that Miller Moss outplayed Nuss, which he emphatically denied saying…
Second question he was asked if he thought they needed to be more diverse in the run game and his response was “well what would you like us to do?” The reporter suggested getting under center.
When speaking about personal fouls penalties he said that guys like Lacy and Burns work everyday on controlling their emotions and were very apologetic.
Said that they need to get Shelton Sampson ready.
Was pleased with DT play, but need better play from the safeties.
He doesn’t think Kaleb Jackson is too heavy. They need to figure out ways showcase the strength of each back.
He likes to receive the ball because he likes to score first because that teams has a higher percentage of winning games. Went for it on 4th down because of analytics.
He doesn’t think they need to change the philosophy when scheduling week 1 games. Winning an opener 73-0 doesn’t give the team much benefit.
Offensive line was outstanding in protection. They could do some things better schematically.
Likes Perkins where he is. Perkins needs to narrow his focus, he tends to want to do too much. Said that his biggest improvement will be from week 1 to week 2.
Mason Taylor played well. The 3 TE package needs to continue to grow.

They aren't working hard enough and being apologetic isn't good enough.

He's certainly not going to make many friends with answers like that. Sheesh.

Allow Nuss to audible when in 12 personnel and the defense is stacking the box.

Motion into a spread formation and run counters every now and then.
If defenses do not respect the motion, Nuss need to pull the ball and throw. If they do honor the motion, let Jackson run.

I disagree - if you need a first game to find out that your offense is often confused, that your corners can't cover in man to man and that your team lacks discipline and gets penalized all game, then schedule a creampuff and then work on these things all week in practice and in your schemes.

Give them more "work" or bench them and maybe then they'll control their emotions.

He should've kicked a FG because of common sense.

The analytics have not worked out for us in our previous openers and it didn't work in this one. Perhaps he shouldn't let analytics be the final decision maker.

true toss sweeps instead of the short tosses? jet sweeps? less dives? more counter traps? counter treys? more misdirection?
yes kelly we want more TOSS DIVES!

Exactly. Why is LSU paying a coach $10 million a year if all he's going to do is rely on statistics to make decisions? Hell, let's just have all the assistants get together with ChatGPT during the games to come up with play calls.

50% of that I agree with, the rest, is horse shite and he knows it, especially about the run game. What kind of fricked up answer is that .

They won’t have these issues against a shite team

I just find it funny that he uses analytics to decide to go for it on 4th down, but doesn’t use them when deciding to receive, and goes off of his gut feeling instead.
His answer also contradicted itself. The whole point of receiving is to put points on the board first, but he completely went against that entire philosophy by not kicking a field goal.

I have been saying we need a little scrappy white guy to put in every now and then. One of those guys that's like trying to tackle a greased pig.

Somebody should have asked him about RPO options too.

This. And I think the whole 4th down analytics is so stupid. The reason going on 4th sometimes has high success is because teams only do it in situations where it's likely to succeed in the first place.

I don’t understand this. The lack of a diverse running game has been an issue since Kelly got here. That has been offset the last couple of years because of how good a runner JD was. However, all offseason we read about how the running game was going to look different this year (more counters, traps, etc.) to make up for the loss of JD. Instead, what we got Sunday night was the same old bland running game with some terrible blocking by the O-line and TEs.
Kelly should actually address the question rather than making a snide remark.

It’s a bit ironic to me that it felt like we had 350 safeties and 3.50 DT’s in the offseason, but the DT group looks significantly better than the safety group in the first game.

Heard that as well.. subtle shot at Lane?

Team discipline and issues with pre-snap penalties will show up no matter who you are playing until it’s corrected.

The running game hasn’t been diverse since 2018.

We ran power schemes on Sunday night. They just didn’t work. Diverse =/= productive.
