ND fans aren't particularly happy about it, either, but it's a legacy of Jack Swarbrick (our recently retired AD). He had tendency to shirk from true excellence when the opportunity was presented to him. The ACC agreement, in particular, is looking like a dead fricking anchor this year.
Still, it doesn't help that FSU and probably USC don't appear to be holding up their end of the bargain on the schedule front. Two tier 1 programs who are likely to have severely down years. Not much we can do about that. GT and Louisville might pick up some slack there.
But I agree the schedule is a joke. This team can be really good, though.

Uh, but when they get to the playoffs they'll be exposed.
Also, a weak ND team made the BCS title game, which was only a 2 team playoff. They got beat down, and that was with TEN less playoff spots. Don't act like this new system waters things down.

I think if Georgia Tech plays that game in their home stadium they would give them a good fight, but they lose their home field advantage going to Mercedes Benz stadium. Louisville could be tough but that’s in South Bend

Notre Dame’s dilemma. If they don’t join a conference, they’ll never be eligible for a 1st round playoff bye. But if they join a conference, they’ll have to play a real schedule and won’t be able to go 11-1 and get into the CFP nearly as often

This ain’t new to college football. ND is getting into a 4 team playoff and is heavily considered for the BCS championship game pre 2014
