I have two kids. They're annoying. I get it. But damn, I went to dinner last night with my family (two kids 5 and under).

There was a baseball team of maybe 15 kids. Around 10 years old. Every single kid was staring at a different screen (mostly tablets but a few phones).

WTFF? You can't talk to your teammates?

Family across from us was one kid and the parents. All three on phones.

What's the point of going out to eat to stare at a screen.

I get sometimes you just want a break but that's insane.

And they're so addictive. For example, recently flew with my kids for the first time. The first two flights they were excited and looking out the window. It was a long flight so we let them use the tablet. By the third flight they never even looked out the window at takeoff.

And then they whined for it in the car. Nope. Done.

Look out the window and learn something. Mine will not get a tablet again. I'm not totally anti screen, they watch TV but I'm not having some mindless drone kid staring at some bullshite screen all day.

Worst decision of my life was buying my son a tablet.

Yeah, I figured that was coming. But these kids are so screwed. They are going to have zero social skills.

Mine are little but in sports, Scouts, gymnastics, church activities, play all the time.

Not some little fricking tiktok zombies. shite is awful imo.

I'm sure a lot of posters here will talk shite about your opinion, but I agree. Its depressing looking at the future of our society.

It’s deeply concerning.

My kids don’t get to use them much.

Yeah but it's ok because he looks out the window when the plane takes off.

Agreed. It’s lazy parenting. I feel sorry for those kids.

Do you want the kids running around bumping into tables and shouting and throwing shite around in the restaurant, like the good old days?

Here's the thing judgy mcjudgerson

You don't know anything about the kids and parents. The baseball team example is a good one and kind of extreme, but in day to day situations, you don't know shite.

Personally, we limit screen time and at restaurants and such we have them do other stuff, like coloring books, and we bring toys. But they get restless after a while, in particular after they've eaten. At that point we'll bust out phones or tablets while we finish eating and get the check.

Sometimes they have had a rough day, or slept bad the night before, or whatever it is, and they are cranky and mom and dad just want a break.

On an airplane my kids are usually glued to the windows during takeoff and landing, but the rest of the flight? Nah frick it, they get to play games on the switch or watch a show or whatever. Plane rides suck and are boring for adults, much less kids.

Our son is almost 6. He has a tablet and at home will give him screen time and it gives us a break for an hour.

If we go out to eat somewhere, he is going to mind his matters. Will let him have the kids coloring page offered at the restaurant, but that’s it.

We just refuse to give our son a tablet at a restaurant, that’s just our choice and whatever other parents choose to do is there business, but my son is going to know how to interact and act appropriately in a social setting.

What's worse is the adults who know better and choose their phone over being present.

Imagine having a family in front of you and all you care about is a fricking phone game.

Don't think it goes unnoticed...

Don’t take this personally but you shouldn’t have had children

Actually please take it personally

Or maybe it’s okay because he’s an adult and didn’t spend his childhood constantly behind a screen like so many kids do today?
