Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries agents have made an arrest in connection with the deadly boat wreck that occurred in July on the Tickfaw River. Jason Chaisson, 34, of Holden, has been arrested and charged with nine counts: seven felonies and two misdemeanors.

He’s charged with five counts first-degree vehicular negligent injury, two counts vehicular homicide, DWI second offense and careless operation.

Officials told UWK that investigators had to await toxicology screenings for Sharkey and Chaisson, which is standard protocol in fatal crashes. The results, which took several weeks to process, led to Chaisson’s arrest Thursday.

Drinking on a river late at night is such a bad decision.

Hmmm……absolutely no chance that alcohol was involved here, right?

Couldnt imagine wanting to be on a small boat on a louisiana river at midnight.

I won't blindly make this assumption, but there's a strong possibility that may have been the case.
What I will assume is there is a strong likelihood that not many on the party barge and the other boat had on life jackets, and that may have contributed to the end result.
Personally, I don't understand being out on a river at midnight on a boat, but that's just me.

Sounds like someone that’s never had a mmf threesome.

Being on any kind of recreational type boat after dark is unsettling to me. Too many morons and drunk people that don’t know what they are doing when there is light out. When it gets dark, it’s time to GTFO. I can’t imagine being out til midnight.

When ever we'd hit the Prop Stop, my rule was one drink, that's it... Having people in a bass boat that ran in the 70's was way too much responsibility.

As a licensed charter boat captain I can say that many don’t need alcohol to be a menace on the water day or night. I am way to the right but there needs to be a licensing requirement to operate a boat.
Passing the Rules of the Road test should be a min requirement for license.

The driver of the pontoon that was killed has 4 children under the age of 12. I’m not sure what the he was doing out on a boat at that time but he’s a great guy!!! Terrible loss.

Younger folks have to take a boaters safety course, but there isn’t a license.

Not a lic but born before 1984 I believe need to be certified.
But what does that do? You need a test and lic for a vehicle and people still wreck.

Do you know and understand the Rules of the Road while on the water?
Bet 75% of boaters don’t. I see boaters navigating many mornings with those damn light bars or q beams blinging other boats and themselves.
Light bars on transoms, multiple green/red lights all over the boat.

This- I am a lifelong boater (since 12) and I’m almost 50.
Any fool with a bunch of money can go drop a million plus on a Cigarette, small Sporty, big CC, and cause a helluva accident destroying life and property, plus creating a pretty significant environmental mess.
I tell my sons all the time “go slow look like a pro, go fast look like an arse”
With that rule, you earn the respect of your fellow boaters and marina people.
