I recently re-watched the Miss. State and Auburn games from 1997 where Cecil Collins did all of his playing.

Watching those 2 games, especially he Auburn game, reminded me of just how awful the play-calling was under DiNardo. In that Auburn game, Cecil had come off of running for 172 in Starkville, yet LSU fell behind 14-0 because they came out throwing the ball all over the place and Herb Tyler threw a bunch of picks. They didn't even try to establish the run until they were behind by 2 touchdowns. It was atrocious.

It serves as a reminder of how good we have it now.

Tyler was a very efficient QB. That was prob one of the worst games of his career

Don’t forget all we needed was a third and short to essentially ice the game. Dinardo chose to pass the ball despite Cecil running through them like goose shite.

Gerry actually did. He got Kevin Faulk and others. He beat #1 Florida in 97. He had us preseason top 10. He is severely underrated. He could never get over the hump and was killed by his loyalty to Tepper, but Dinardo is the one that righted this ship. We had a talented roster when Saban took over and top Louisiana kids were starting to pick LSU more.

Saban obviously shot us into the stratosphere, but Dinardo built the launch pad. We were in the fricking gutter before Dinardo.

Biggest waste of talent in LSU history and maybe football history.

Gerry was a necessary step in righting the ship. The early 90s were tough times. The mid to late 90s gave us hope and showed us a glimpse of what LSU could be.

DiNardo left Saban a solid team

But hey let's not give it to Cecil on 3rd and 2 to seal the game after we took the lead. Still pissed about that play call.

Was coming to post this.

Pass early, fall behind by 14 points. Cecil runs all over Auburn for a record breaking performance and we have the lead and need one first down to clinch the game… drop back pass to a one on one receiver on the sidelines. It wasn’t even a play action look to slip out a fullback or tight end. Then Dameyun Craig marches Auburn for the win in the two minute drill.

The entire crowd was chanting “Diesel! Diesiiel! Diesiel’ before that 3rd and short play.

And then made it disappear, after running off Morris Watts and Carl Reese.

Something like 26 NFL players left on that roster Saban inherited.

Yep. No one on here should disparage Jerry. He showed you could win at LSU. We should all be grateful.

Dinardo did manage to bring excitement back to LSU football, but it’s amazing that we hired a guy with a head coaching record of 19-25.

What you watched was incompetent assistant coaches vs incompetent Head Coach in Leslie J Miles

We were not in the gutter before DiNardo.

The gutter would have been an improvement.

The memory of this game and going on the field is second only to being in the Superdome Jan 13, 2020.
