Greenland has applied to become a member of Concacaf, the governing body for soccer in North and Central America and the Caribbean, the Football Association of Greenland said on Tuesday.

Greenland would be the 42nd member of the continental association if approved.

quote:

Home to some 56,000 people, Greenland would surpass some existing Concacaf nations in population, including Anguilla and Montserrat.

"Through our connections among the existing member countries in Concacaf, we will expand our knowledge and network, so that we know what to prepare for with all national teams and club teams," said Rutkjaer.

First heard this on the Guardian football podcast talking about the Euros and I couldn't believe it.

Can't wait to see Jamaica play in Greenland with my grandkids one day.

That’s amazing. Missed opportunity not having home stadium way up north in the frozen tundra.

Can't wait to hear about how tough it is to play away at Greenland after the US gets a draw.

Playing surface and stadium is better than most current CONCACAF members

Would love to see a game there but where do you sit?

Something tells me that Greenland will never get to the point where they play us in Nations League or WCQ

If Iceland can qualify for Euros and WC in UEFA, Greenland can get to playing us in CONCACAF…

I think Iceland has about 10x the population.

aside from being islands and being cold, the two share nothing in common. educationally, industrially, evolutionarily…literally nothing. but that kind of post makes up 90% of his catalogue

Someone knows nothing about Greenland

ETA: Here was their latest squad called up, which was back in 2023: LINK

That roster includes a 41 year old defender who plays for a semi-pro team in Greenland.

I don’t think Greenland is even part of FIFA so they aren’t eligible for WCQ.

Currently they aren't, but the whole point of them applying to be in CONCACAF is so they can get approved by FIFA.
