Caitlin Clark owes some of her "worth" as a marketable WNBA player to her race and sexuality, according to former ESPN host Jem

She's right with that. In a country predominantly white, it makes sense that a white WNBA star (who is moderately attractive) would be more marketable than another race/attraction level. But you can't say that, and then say this too:
quote:

"We would all be very naive if we didn’t say race and her sexuality played a role in her popularity,"

..and then try to say this:
quote:

there is a part of it that is a little problematic because of what it says about the worth and the marketability of the players who are already there."

You admit why Clark is more marketable, then try to disparage that and say that other players should be getting more deals and shouldn't be "erased."

You answered your own question, so to speak. She's more marketable, so she gets more deals. It's not unfair at all really, at least in terms of her getting special treatment "because" she's white/attractive.

That's like bitching about a supermodel being more marketable for lingerie than someone like that Lizzo chick. It isn't unfair, one is just more marketable than the other so obviously companies will want to use those people to market their product. Choosing someone who won't appeal to your customers and who won't sell anything isn't "unfair" or "problematic," it's simply makes good business sense.

But then again, Jamele Hill already knows this and is just trying to race-bait to generate clicks and attention. It's what made her famous in the first place.

I bet your # may be low, tatted up bull-dykes who act like men aren't going to get much of a fan following by normies.

Clark is the only female player I know that can bomb deep 3s. It makes the game exciting and she doesn't make anything at all about race/sexuality.

That's literally why she's the most marketable player. That's it.

Well... she isn't completely wrong. However she does conveniently forget (or leave out) the fact that Caitlin Clark was awesome in college with range on 3s that many men struggle with.

Yes, Caitlin is white and a lot of young white girls will look up to her as a role model. Nothing wrong with that either.

Didn't seem to be a problem when Tiger was young and made tons of money in endorsements very early in his career. He signed a $20M endorsement deal before playing his first pro tournament. Lots of young blacks gravitated to golf. Same for the Williams sisters in Tennis.

Jemele is still a racist count.

ways in which to not erase Black women from a league that they have built and continue to build

Here's one. There are nearly 42 million black people in the United States. Why aren't they watching games, buying merch, promoting, etc...??

Money talks. Nike isn't interested in handing out money losing deals just because of someone's race.

6% of the population makes up 70% of a league and they are bitching about equity?

Hill is trying to rally the troops and drive Clark out of the league or into obscurity
The golden goose arrived in the league and typical jealous women just can’t have that. They’d rather have “their own league” and be subpar then to have success. Kinda sounds like neighborhoods in general.

I agree. There are plenty of ways to celebrate black QBs that do not erase the white guys that built the position.

I think one of the funniest basketball trivia stats is that James Naismith had a losing record coaching the sport he invented. The guy did not know ball.

Her race, maybe I could buy to a degree. But her sexuality has absolutely nothing to do with her popularity.

By being subsidized by the money that men make? I wish Jemelle Hill would do everyone a favor and just fricking retire and move to one of the black utopias she thinks exist. Maybe she would like Haiti.

No one GAF about the WNBA before Clark showed up. "They" didn't build shite, they were subsidized by big brother. If we want to talk about equality let's start with the 75% black players, shouldn't it be 65% white players ? frick this racist bitch.

Same as women's college ball.

Sooooo much drama from the coaches and players...

It'll have a flicker of interest, but it gets snuffed out quickly.

You don't think it's problematic that a white person is more marketable than a black person?

Who’s more marketable, Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods or Nikola Jokic and Scottie Scheffler?

Is your answer problematic?
